These things any good? I just picked up a Camillus CUDA folder because it's relatively heavy, has a cool opener, is left-handed, and was 50% off. Anyone know anything about the quality of these knives?
The quality on Camillus's knives is very good and the Cudas are them new generation of knives that Will Fennel and Phil Gibbs are using to show off the company's capabilties. While some of them are very different, the Maxx series, the others like the EDC are sound modern utility and fighting folders. I would say that you've gotten a good product that is under-appreciated by most folks due to Camillus's lack of tacYtal pretensions.
I've got a sheath knife and folder by Camillus, both blades are 154cm an excellent steel, and both are well designed .No gimmicks just well made practical knives. The folder is my everyday carry knife.
I like the Cuda a lot, though I'm not as wild about the smaller one. The blade is still prybar-thick, so it might as well be the larger size to my way of thinking.
I haven't heard of the Dominator or the Aftermath. Are there pictures?
Got a M1 Garand bayonet and a US Army 'Trench Knife' That were made by Camillus during WWII - This company was a major contractor of Cutlery during WWII.
I've owned a number of their folders over the years, the one that sticks (non-pun) in my mind was a double bladed lockblade folder = both blades had an individulized locking mechanism...carried it constantly for over 2 years, when it turned up lost, the model had been discontinued .
I think the Camillus Vietnam era USAF survival knife is one of the best designs ever made. This knife brand has been a military provider for many wars. I suspect that this is among one of the most often blooded knife brands. They are high quality.
I've got a WWII Camillus sheath knife (looks like a Ka-Bar) and it has carbon steel that can be honed to a razor's edge, believe me, I've shaved with it. Nothin finer, imho.
