What is your camp gun? Where do you keep your camp gun? At camp or haul it back and forth from home? If you leave it at camp how do you store it?

Don`t have no (Gun Camp) where I hunt is 10 min. from the house. I just get up, get ready, throw the rifle in the car & go hunting..............

If I'm going to be out there a while, I take along either a Ruger Security Six and/or a Marlin 1894 in .357Mag or a Redhawk in .44Mag and/or a Marlin 1895 in 45-70, depending on the size and scope of the critter population.

Either way, they do not remain in camp, ever.

.22lr of some type. Depends on what your needs may be. Storing it is also a difficult issue, if others have access to the camp site than do not leave it there. If you are the only one with access to the area a small locked gun safe hidden somewhere would be ideal. If you need something with more bang "camp gun" then mabye a .38 spl. snubbie. When I think camp gun I am thinking something to have around to simply have around in case a rat or opossum wonder in. :)

On the other hand if the "Camp Gun" in question is for say something big brown and harry that weighs in at 1k than I would keep a .45-70 Gov't. handy! :D

One of these days I will get a little secluded place of my own. I doubt I will keep a gun there though, they are not that heavy to just bring along.

My camp gun is an older push feed Winchester Model 70 .30-06 with barrel cut down to ~21" and front sight ramp and rear peep sight installed, no scope.

2 types of ammo for it, full house 165gr SP @ 2800fps and plinker 110gr plated RN @ 1700fps, both shoot to same point of aim @100 yds or less.

joisewales,

I just don't like the idea of encountering a critter I can't stop with the rounds at hand. I wouldn't necessarily carry a rifle if I could be pretty sure there were no Nandi Bears, Chupakabra, etc.

Beatledog,
Yea I know what you mean. I usually carry a 12 ga. and a .38. I'd hate to run into a bear or something, and only have a .22.
