They were likely confusing IL law with the Federal law that prohibits under-21's from buying handguns from a FFL.

Anyone in IL needs to have a FOID card to purchase a long gun. If you are under 21 that would mean you also need a parent signature to apply for a FOID card.

Really? That must have changed because i got my foid back when i was 13 years old and didnt need a signature, then again that was 5 and half years ago.

It realy is but for us in IL it is a evil we must suffer to be able to own guns. I would love to see it chalenged in court but I know I dont have the money to chalange it.
