Can a bad magazine allow a handgun to fire unintentionally?

Letting the slide slam closed on an empty chamber may cause the hammer to fall. Seen it on 1911 with light trigger pull weights or improper hammer, sear engaugement.

A loaded magazine, when chambering a round , will slow rhe slide and avoid this problem most times.

I think I now know the answer. Ever since I sent him this message "Was he maybe playing with the combined safety/decocker? That one makes a distinct click decocking the gun." I haven't heard anything back from him about this. That's a perfectly reasonable explanation to what happened. I would have asked a lot more questions back then, and I would have tried to repeat it, but that's me.
