I know that there are restrictions on buying handguns in other states if you are a Calfornia resident. Does this apply if I want to buy a rifle as well? So basically is it legal for me as a California resident to buy a rifle in Arizona and bring it back to California? Thanks, Tyler

If you can't buy it in CA, no dealer in AZ will sell it to you. And if you somehow buy a rifle that is illegal in CA then you definitely cannot bring it back in. If you get your hands on something you'd have to keep it in NV or AZ.

i inquired about this when i was in arizona last year and the gun store would not sell a gun (rifle) to me because they said i was from california, but they sold me lots of ammo.

Since California law requires that firearms purchases by California residents must be processed through a California licensed dealer, it would be a violation of Federal law for an Arizona dealer to sell you any firearm unless it was shipped to a California dealer for transfer.
