Can any body I.D. this pistol???

Hey yall,

I have this pistol that I recieved from a friend and need some help identifying it.

Here's what it says on the pistol:

Left side of slide: LLAMA GABILONDO Y CIA VITORIA (ESPANA)
CAL. 380

Pistol Frame: STOEGER ARMS
S. Hackensack NJ

It's a Spanish Llama .380 semi-auto pistol. It was imported into the US by Stoeger Arms of Hackensack, NJ.
What else do you need to know?

It's a Llama. I have two of them, and both work well. Most folks call them junk, but they are the closest .380 ever built to a 1911. The only departure is the external extractor and the rib. They are many times more "1911ish" than a Colt .380 Government which is quite a bit different internally.

Highly improbable. A .380 round is not only 2mm shorter than a 9mm Luger round, but it's also just a hair smaller in diameter (something like 0.01"). The mag (and the magwell) wouldn't be able to accommodate the larger round. Furthermore, the recoil spring and the frame probably weren't designed for the higher energy of the 9mm Luger round vs. the .380 round.

No.

(And on the "Never say never" front, yeah, a good machinest and gunsmith could probably tear the pistol down to the bare frame, cut and weld and otherwise modify the frame, and then modify other parts (or throw them away and buy new) so that "technically" you could say it was the same gun modified to fire 9mm instead of .380.

We are talking about essentially rebuilding the gun from scratch though and the cost would be significantly higher then just buying a 9mm pistol to start.

I only even mention it because, with enough money and technical skill, anything is possible. There was a custom smith a few years back who was converting 9mm Luger pistols to .45 ACP. He'd take two Lugers as donor pistols, cut them up, and then build up a new larger frame from the original two frames. He'd modify the other parts accordingly as well. Converting this .380 ACP pistol to 9mm would be a similiar job and nowhere near worth the effort.
