I found this in with a bunch of other goodies in a box I picked up at an auction. The other items were a Vaver globe type sight and a 10X shooting glove for the offhand.

I do not see any brand names on the sight, and a check of he patent number just leads to a patent on the slide mechanism itself without any other identifying info. There are some symbols on the underside which are a stamped Diamond, a cross (like an iron cross) and the letter P.

I'm curious to who made it, and what rifles it would fit. It looks to take a base that would fit a round receiver. Any info would be appreciated. receiversight3.jpg

Looks like an older Lyman .22 target sight.
I would have to do some digging to find the actual number.
The sight slid on a seperate dovetail mount that was screwed to the side of the rifle receiver.

The actual apeture looks like an early Merit adjustable.

I've had older Lyman sights such as the 48's and they all had Lyman clearly rollstamped on them.

The front vaver globe sight that accompanied this had the Lyman
"running deer" logo on it. I would think that if it were a Lyman, that they would have rolled the deer logo on the sight somewhere. IIRC the patent date is around 1936.

This does require a dovetail base that would fit on a rounded receiver. The bugger is pretty heavy.

Another odd thing about the sight is that it's marked in meters and in yards but the two don't correlate to each other. As you see in the middle photo, the metric scale goes from 4 to 52, while the yardage goes from 25 to 300. The 300yd mark is parrelel to the 52 meter mark, although 300 yards actually equals 274 meters. 52 meters equals 57 yards.

Does the scale look like it's set up for .22 LR or for Centerfire? I would guess .22 LR as there seems to be about 3/4" elevation difference between 25 and 300. I guess it would depend on the barrel length also..

I hope someone can solve the mystery or steer me in the right direction.

Is that meter or MOA markings? Anyone know if there is a 4 moa difference in POI from 25y to 50y? I don't think there is, but it could be a general scale? My redfields have two sets of markings on them like that as well, and they don't directly correlate as far as I can tell.

Well, Scythefwd looks to have nailed it. It is that sight exactly. I wonder what it had sold for.

I'll probably put this on Gb or fleabay to see what it fetches.

Thanks for your help. I knew somone on this board would dig it out.

Don,
Believe it or not, I had suspected it to be a mossberg sight, and that is why I went to that site. The pics matched and proved me way wrong :)

Thanks for the website. I've got it stored in my favorites now. I notice that he had a second Parker Hale sight just like mine farther down the page listed with a Remington model 37 rifle for an additional $325!!!

I've got mine listed on Fleabay to start on Tuesday with a starting bid of $40... We'll see what it does.
