Can anyone recommend a .243 Win. lead bullet load? I use 100 gr jacketed for deer. This is for pests around the cabin. 900 to 1300 fps is plenty. Very close range. 25 yards would be long.

I want to avoid leading the barrel, but I want to make sure a bullet doesn't get stuck. Is there a problem with detonation with just a little powder in a big case?

The snakes are coming out here in Alabama. Don't put your hand on a rock untill you look first.

Ken, The Speer manual #10 gave some low velocities in in the range you are after. The bullet weights used are 90 and 105 grains. A 22 magnum rimfire would work well for what you are after.

reply to Brian or any married man

I should have said US Army (ret) I am giving my wife a new Ruger® compact for her 50th birthday, Shhh. Its a secret. I still don't know how to give it to her well before Nov 20 when the season starts and still have it be a birthday gift on Dec 10.

The load is also a practice/squirrel load for her. She bought a cheap .22 LR but it is not very good. She also bought a combo outfit with one stock and two barrels. A 20ga/.243 a while ago to see if she liked turkey hunting and deer hunting. She LOVES going after the turkeys and bow deer. She is out bow hunting now for deer. Gilly suit, face paint and blind.

I thought she would like the Ruger, if for no other reason, its pretty. My only manual just has jacketed bullet loads. I have some 700X and 105 gr lead bullets. I'm just not sure about so little powder in a big case.

Leading the barrel

Leading the barrel: To deposit lead in the grooves. Common in very high speed .357s with soft lead bullets.
