Can anyone recommend a boresighter?

Laser or not. I'd like the know your thoughts on a good boresighter.

I just put a red-dot scope on my Ruger Super Blackhawk and wanted to try a boresighter.

Hack

I bought a $30 laser boresighter from wal-mart and it has placed the crosshairs within 2" on dozens of rifles. Mine is about 4 years old with the same batteries.

If you understand that a bore-sighter is just that, not a "zero" finder, any of them will do fine to get you on paper with a new scope.

Mine is an old Bushnell "Professional" tool with three expandable bore arbors. I prefer the optical type because I write down where on the square grid my zero is. Later I use the grid as a reference to confirm my zero hasn't shifted in transit. So far, in several years of use with good quality scopes, I haven't had a single instance of needing to re-zero but it's nice to have that confidence each time I go afield.

I have always found the "one shot zero" to work extremely well, and so have never seen a need to spend money on a boresighter.

I have a Simmons that works fine for me. The only thing you might want to avoid are the ones that have a magnet that you attach to the end of the bore. I have heard, though I haven't experienced it myself, that they have a bit of a hard time staying attached to stainless barrels, but have also heard people say the haven't had a problem with it. If you do decide to try the magnetic one, see if the store you buy it at has a rifle like yours or try it on your rifle.

I put a Burris 4x on my Blackhawk .41 mag with a B-Squared mount.

Shooting ammo is more fun than using a bore sight. :)

I couldn't find a laser in .41 mag. Go figure.

The recoil of a Magnum handgun makes bore-sighting impractical anyway.

Ever notice how high the front sight is in relation to the rear? (and the bore line)

Recoil kicks the revolver well up off bore line-of-sight before the bullet clears the muzzle.

The little Leupold magnetic type is great. First of it is very compact and uses no batteries. Once I have my rifle sighted in I put the boresighter back on the rifle and make a note of the coordinates of the crosshair. While in the field if I drop/bump/etc the rifle, I just pull out the boresighter and check to see if the scope has moved!

I has saved a hunt more than once for me and a buddy!
