I am considering calling a gun shop, asking them to order a specific gun for my daughter, giving them my credit card number to pay for the gun, and then asking them to call my daughter when it comes in, as it would be her surprise birthday present. She's near Casper, and I'm near Tampa. Can anyone up in the vicinity of Casper recommend a good gun shop?

My criteria? Good price, but also good customer service.

I doubt a gun store will go along with this. It comes very close to an illegal straw purchase. While you can buy a gun and give it to her as a present, the fact that the gun is going straight from the dealer to your daughter without you taking possession is dubious.

I would help you out, but I'm a few hours from Casper. It is nowhere near a straw sale. It is an obvious gift. I've had fathers and sons buy guns off of gunbroker and shipped to me and the other receives the transfer because it was theirs, a gift from the other.

I have a good friend who is from Casper, I'll ask him for a referral in the morning.

As far as I know, if she fills out the 4473, it is nowhere near a straw buy. It doesn't matter who pays.

Correct...

If I paid for the gun, and she filled out the 4473, but I was going to be the real owner, then that would be wrong. Here, there is no effort or intent to convey the gun to a prohibited person, and the person who signs the 4473 is the person who will actually own the gun. If I filled out the form and then immediately gifted the gun to her, then someone would say that that was wrong.

We know your intentions are honest, but how does the dealer know that. You and your daughter are total strangers to him. When one person pays and another person fills out the paperwork that raises red flags. How does he know your daughter isn't going to turn around and give you the gun? You should definitely explain the whole situation to the dealer beforehand to make sure he is ok with it because if you pay for the gun and then the dealer refuses to release it to your daughter you'll have a real mess to unwind.

For MAKster....

Yes. As I said, I would be calling him and giving him my credit card info, and he would call my daughter and have her fill out the 4473. I think our discussion would cover all aspects of the plan and uncover any concerns or questions he might have regarding it. If he thought it was improper, he just wouldn't accept my credit card info, or order the gun, or call my daughter.

SO, DOES ANYONE KNOW OF A GUN SHOP THAT THEY WOULD RECOMMEND IN CASPER?

Yes, I know I can look one up on the internet, but I'd like to direct my business to a store that has earned the respect of people I respect.
