Can built up air in surplus ammo cans be poisonous?

I've noticed that 'ammonia smell' of some gunpowders and laquers.. maybe you're allergic to something.

The laquer probably wasn't set when they sealed it and it degassed in there. If they seal it with nitrogen, then you got whatever laquer fumes lasted and blasted out in your face. Now some people are "allergic" to this or whatever. My grandmother used to get headaches anytime I used something that released fumes. Laquer would certainly do it.

I wouldn't worry about it. If it gets worse over a couple of days, you should probably go see a doctor, but then I'd bet it's a coincidence.

Headache

When using a double base powder handloading I get a bit of a headache after a couple of hours. The Nitro is the culprit according to my Cardiologist.

P5 guy has it correct. Depending on storage conditions, more than likely some nitroglycerin has come out of solution. Nothing on earth will give you a headache like ng. With the possible exception of a few mothers in law, and the IRS.

Mike and Greg,

With that combination, not only would you have a headache but also TWO certified PITA's.

For the slow among us PITA stands for Pain In The Aspirin.....:)
