Hi All Knowing & All Seeing Folks:

Can Cap n ball revolvers be sent directly to New York State (Smithtown, NY 11787) or must it go to an FFL?

I usually use Cabelas info as my guide, and they do not have any restrictions listed for sending cap guns to New York, so I think its OK

I know NY has weird gun laws and I don't want to break them.

Thanks in advance

The answer is "yes" and if you want to test it, give S&S a call and they will ship from NYC straight to you.

That's my understanding as well. I also believe that if they want to shoot it they have to go through some kind of permitting process but it's their problem, not yours. Perhaps jmfc606 can educate us as to what happens on their end, if anything.

While any resident of New York State (not sure about NY City) who can posses a firearm can own a muzzleloading pistol or cap and ball revolver, if you have the materials (ball, powder etc.) to shoot them, they must be registered on your New York State pistol permit.

Yes

Good luck trying to register one. They'll look at you like you came from Mars. After pestering several LE agencies, I was finally told to go have fun shooting my gun and stop bothering them.

The way it should be, really. Who am I to disagree?
