Couldn't find this topic anywhere so I started a new thread. I've been looking to purchase a pistol online because it is the only place this one is available. I was told by the seller that even though I am not 21 (will be in 10 days) I can go ahead and buy the pistol and pay for it and let my FFL dealer know that I need him to hold it because i won't be picking it up until my birthday. Can I do that? It would be nice to have my new gun on my birthday instead of having to wait..

The restriction is on the FFL delivering it to under-21. Talk to the dealer you plan to use, s/he may be willing to let you order before your birthday.

Ah ok. Thanks for the confirmation. I'm going to go discuss it with my dealer right now.

I would think that you would be okay as long as its not in your possession before you are 21.

but then you also have to think.. would you rather just wait 10 days and not risk it?

I don't see how that is illegal. You wouldn't be filling out the 4473 until you were 21, so no law gets broken AFAIK. Not a lawya yadda yadda.

If you were in Ohio it would be illegal. Ohio statute makes it illegal for a person <21 to purchase or attempt to purchase a handgun.

Depends a lot on state law. Most states you would be just fine.

Ohio Revised Code:

2923.211 Underage purchase of firearm or handgun.
(A) No person under eighteen years of age shall purchase or attempt to purchase a firearm.

(B) No person under twenty-one years of age shall purchase or attempt to purchase a handgun, provided that this division does not apply to the purchase or attempted purchase of a handgun by a person eighteen years of age or older and under twenty-one years of age if either of the following apply:

(1) The person is a law enforcement officer who is properly appointed or employed as a law enforcement officer and has received firearms training approved by the Ohio peace officer training council or equivalent firearms training.

(2) The person is an active or reserve member of the armed services of the United States or the Ohio national guard, or was honorably discharged from military service in the active or reserve armed services of the United States or the Ohio national guard, and the person has received firearms training from the armed services or the national guard or equivalent firearms training.

Thanks for all the replies. I confirmed with the seller and my dealer that it was fine. And as far as state laws go...I live in Mississippi  So they really don't care all that much lol.

Why not wait?

I know the first thing I am going to do on my 21st birthday.

buy a pistol
or two

or more...

Shouldn't the question be, "Why wait?" If you are over 18, buy them now! Especially in Idaho where you can actually carry them!
