I plan to start goose hunting this year, but the shotguns I have shoot a 2 3/4 in shell, 12ga, Will this be OK for goose, or do i need a 3in gun and if so does anyone have a suggestion on a good lower pricsd goose gun. I now shoot a 870, but would appreicate any input on what might be a good goose gun. I also shoot left handed.

BTW, if your shotgun is full choked or is not steel shot compatible, look up Kent Tungsten Matrix, suitable for old shotguns not rated for steel shot and with fixed full chokes. Steel and hevi shot needs a more open choke to properly pattern. One source for Kent is http://www.mackspw.com/

The Kent Tungsten matrix is unbelievably expensive, but it's your only choice in an old gun now that Bismuth went belly up. If you're just doing one goose hunt, it's cheaper than buying a new shotgun. If you plan to take geese on a lot, you might look into buying a Mossberg 500 or Remington 870 express or maybe an 835 Ultimag or something.

Many thousands of geese have been taken over the years with 2 3/4 shells.
With the right load, #2s or BB and the right choke, full choke for steel shot, it will be a very effective honker stopper.
