I found some hornady xtp 10mm 200gr hiding on my shelf I don't remember buying them I probebly thought I was buying 40s&w can I shoot thease out of my 40? the dia is .0005 smaller than a 40cal and they are longer, also my load book only goes up to 180gr

I am a penetration advocate and I think the XTP is just about right for whole-horse 10mm loa
ds like Buffalo Bore or Underwood or 10mm carbine velocities, but you are not likely to get much expansion at .40 S&W velocities.

All Hornady .400" handgun bullets are marked 10mm and like said above, 10mm bullets and 40 S&W bullets are the same.

Hodgdon has 40 S&W load using a that hornady 200gr XTP bullet using 15 powders.

One question, do you really think 5 ten-thousands of an inch will make any difference in any handgun? When measuring .0005" human error is more likely than a real difference in diameter. You must have a very expensive set of calipers to measure to 10,000th of an inch...

I shoot more 10mm than 40, but I love the cross-compatibility of bullets and powders. The 200 XTP is a pretty fine bullet. My Glocks like them.

You had me really worried until I remembered which subforum I was in :).

Yes, the actual projectiles used for .40S&W and 10mm Auto are the same and can be used in either cartridge.
