Hey i was wondering if its ok to use +p 200 gr GDHP in my RIA M1911A1? i bought a box of 20 rounds , i want to get some information before i go blow my hand off! i checked the FPS and FPE it has a hair raising 518 FPE! and 1080 FPS . I have a FS 1911.

thanks for any input!

Even those energy levels are not very spectacular for what .45ACP is capable of. "+P" is just a marketing term in .45ACP. Your gun will shoot them just fine.

And the RIA should handle anything any other brand will. The 1911's are regularly chambered for 10MM so the gun is well capable mechanically to take the pressures you are looking at.

Folks, we need to be more careful when making comments like that. +P is a SAAMI designation, and does indicate higher pressure. Just because the velocity isn't always that much higher than standard pressure doesn't mean the additional pressure isn't there.
