I posted this over in the political/law forum and got zilch. Thought I'd try in here...

Hi,

Yes, I'm in the PRC. Now that we have that out of the way I have a question for you good people.

I am interested in owning an assault rifle. Not a PRC nuetered plinker but a real, honest to God assault rifle. M4 Carbine-ish is what I'm thinking. Knowing full well the laws and regulations of the PRC you all realize as well as I do that if I acted on those desires I'd have free meals and housing for the next 20 years or so, something I'd wish not to happen.

Ok, so I have relatives that live in Nevada. I would very much like to go to Nevada, purchase what ever assault rifle I decide upon and leave it in Nevada at my relatives house, never crossing the iron curtain.

What legal obstacles, if any, am I going to face in legally aquiring an assault rifle in Nevada and permenantly storing it in Nevada even though I am a resident of the PRC and the PRC only.

To be pedantic, assault rifles are select fire weapons. What you want is an military styled rifle. :neener:

I'd say make some phone calls in NV, let your family buy you a present and then go enjoy yourself. Better yet move to a better state.

Assault rifles are selective fire or full automatic rifles. These are not commonly available to civilians.
What you want is a semi-automatic AR15 or AK47 style sporting rifle with a detachable magazine.
Please use correct terminology. It may help if you can convey the correct termionology to your local legislator too.

I beleive this was more subtley put and presumably more effective than bold-faced type pointing out a semantic mestake on the part of the OP.

And yeah, a "gift" is pretty much the only way you're going to get an EBR or anything equally as fun or entertaining.

Every time the police find some clown with an AR in his closet, the media refers to it as an "Assault Rifle" or an "Automatic Weapon" sometimes an old WWII vintage Colt .45 is called an "Automatic" handgun. The OP referring to it as an "Assault Rifle" is just using the common term as used by CA legislator and news media types.

Don't forget in CA, 3 or more firearms is also considered an arsenal. If you have more than 100 rounds of ammo, that's considered to be stockpiling.

Actually the term "assault rifle" is a legitimate one. Comes from the German term "sturmgewher", which means "Storm Rifle".....translated into English, "Assault Rifle".

The term made up by anti-gun idiots is "assault weapon". It's used to scare the sheep.
