When i clean my rifles, I usually rub the internals with hoppes cleaner and then run a bore snake down the bore. After these are done I'd like to find some sort of rust preventative I can keep in the bore to prevent rust (with the possibility that gun will be stored untouched over a year)
For the bore, will, either clp or rem oil be suffice? I'm looking for a,quick solution to spray or drop down the barrel to coat it and not lose any sleep over rust.
Will either of these two products do the trick?

I've heard clp had Teflon that decreases accuracy.

All input appreciated!

Our rifles at camp are stored for nine months of the year. We use Rem Oil on the exterior and CLP on the bore and have never had any rust problems.

The guns are stored in soft cases after cleaning, of course. CLP is great stuff and has no effect on accuracy.

I've used Birchwood Casey Sheath/Barricade for decades and never detected any rust or corrosion of any kind. I just pass a patch wet with it down the bore and back a couple of times and be done with it.

No doubt there are other products just as good. I live in the sunny south, and that's about as harsh an environment I generally experience.

Not the best method as the foam in those soft cases can attract and trap moisture.

OP what you want to do is put a coating that acts like a barrier so moisture and oxygen do not form rust. Most good oils, grease, etc., can do the job. Many folks will store guns barrel down for long periods so gravity doesn't pull the oil down into the action or stock.

For long term storage, I've found RIG (Rust Inhibiting Grease) works best.
CLP is good stuff as well.

Gun care products....

In 04/2015 there are tons of brands and products to choose from. ;)
Some are better than others but you can find a decent rust prevention or CLP product if you look.

Gun care products I'd look into for long term storage include; LPX(Mpro7), Gunzilla, Eezox, Hornady One-Shot, Froglube(paste or liquid CLP), Slip2000, Weaponshield, Breakfree Collector Grade, RIG, Italian Gun Grease(IGG), Rand CLP, Gunbutter, SEAL-1.
I currently don't own or have any firearms in long term storage.
If I did, I'd keep them in a Bore-Store bag, www.Brownells.com or maybe a safe or secured case with environmental control system(humidity, moisture, temperature, etc).
For cleaning, gun care and lubrication I use Ballistol or Froglube CLP. Both prevent rust and are safe/non toxic.

Rusty

I have begun using a product called Blaster Corrosion Stop, from Home Depot, and have found it good both to prevent rust and to help remove it. It is not a penetrant and I would not use it in the lockwork since I don't know any long term effects (like solidifying) but for gun externals and bore protection, it seems to work well. Regular bore cleaning will remove it before firing if desired. It does not seem to affect wood or plastic other than leaving a protective film.
