Seriously though, the cartel related violence is seriously out of hand in Mexico. The cartels also posess some serious firepower. There is concern that some of these guns are being purchased by strawmen in America, and smuggled over the border to Mexico. One recent raid revealed that the cartels were in posession of 7 Barrett 50cal's, the ban on posession of rifles in this caliber is not far away. I concede that some of this is possible, however the cartels also posses many full auto ak-47's and RPG launchers. I dont know about you guys, but my FFL has been out of stock of RPG's for a while now. Unlikely those items are coming from here. Ill pass along the text of an email I recieved today, but unfortunately, I cant seem to get the pictures to come across.
Below is from one of my colleagues- Regrettably the situation continues to deteriorate - Avoid travel to Mexico-

COMING TO AN AMERICAN CITY NEAR YOU
Scenes from the aftermath of a shootout yesterday between cartel members and military/federal agents at Reynosa, Tamaulipas Mexico.
These are pictures from the battle that took place across from Hidalgo a couple of days ago. While it moved through 6 areas of Reynosa, most were within a couple miles of the international bridge. Not too far from where many of our folks work. Some are graphic, below is a summary:
The gunfire volleys between federal police officers and suspected gang members occurred in six parts of the city and were attributed to the Gulf Cartel's struggles to maintain control of one of the key pathways for smuggling drugs into the United States. This city is said to be key territory for the cartel's drug-smuggling organization and its assassins, the Zetas. It is across the Rio Grande from McAllen and is one of Mexico's most important manufacturing centers. The violence involved automatic weapons and grenades and began when police stopped a vehicle at a checkpoint in an upscale neighborhood of Reynosa, witnesses said. That set off running gun battles through the streets, with gangsters commandeering vehicles and using them to block intersections. Witnesses said the battles raged on for more than an hour Tuesday morning. Civilians ran for cover and children crouched under desks.
Careful some photos are graphic.
