So much for the “Obama will not ban guns because there is more important things to do.” I guess we shall see if Blue Dog Dems have spines or not. Then again maybe Holder is a plant from the firearms industry sent to make me buy all the mags and ammo I can get.

Biden is Biden, he's always been gaffe prone. I hope you are right though, and that it is just a loose cannon in the administration shooting his mouth off, but if BHO runs his Presidency like he ran his election campaign, I'd be surprised if this was the case. By and large he's managed to keep his staff pretty much on message.

Well, as seen by the stimulus package the Dems can do pretty much what they want if they are unified. Does anyone how many Blue Dog Dems we can peel off in the Senate? I know they'll be a few RINOs who will vote for any AWB, so well need to factor that in as well. Anyone want to try to analyze how the votes will fall?
Yep, here we go again. Everyone who told us not to worry, that Obama wasn't going to do any of this, I hope you've learned that gun control is CENTRAL to their plans and their identity. The are INCAPABLE of NOT doing anything. And don't think they'll be as stupid as they were before. This AWB will be much worse. Much, much worse. I'll leave my strongest criticism for Obama voters until we see what really is going to happen, but I expect to be saying some harsh words. I guess I'll have to go over to APS to do it.

I think I'll wait until I see the bill on the house floor before panicking. He has no ability as yet to do anything, since he can only enforce law and cannot create it.
Is interesting the lack of apparent concern the Presidency seems to have on all those Sovereignty bills, Heller, relaxation of gun laws in certain states. All of these point to people not being happy with the Feds, and wanting less federal involvement.

First they must "prime the pumps" with a worsening problem.
More hype will continue and the gun "problem" will look like it is getting worse by the day.
They will fire up the Brady's and like
to portray this as an American problem getting out of hand.
Now the stage is set for action. Obviuosly Obama can't do a quick frontal assault so the proceding MUST take place.
He will strike while the iron is hot, meaning his great popularity.

Show me a firearms control bill with a heavy hitter sponsor and a larger number of equally heavyweight co-sponsors in Congress right now........
Without these, bills die in committee, look at everyones paranoid flavor d'jour, HR45 or the annual McCarthy bill.

There will of course be much discussion about this ... can it happen, will it happen, how might it happen, what will it ban, what will it grandfather, will it include registration, will it include confiscation, Obama lied to us, and blah, blah, blah.
There will be a lot of whining about how Obama lied, because he said he believes in the second amendment, and that no one is going to ban your pistols, shotguns, rifles, etc.
But we all KNEW he was lying to us. Yeah ... he was lying. Maybe we can get some traction out of that, maybe not. But politicians lie to be elected. We all know that.
While these are all important discussions, the BOTTOM LINE is that we mount a serious and formidable plan to deny this semiauto ban obamanation from happening. WE CAN STOP IT.
As we deal with this over the next few months ... and as we write to senators, representatives, editors of news papers, etc., I think there are a few fundamental things that we must always communicate:
1) Assault weapons are fully automatic machine guns, which were regulated by the National Firearms Act of 1934, and effectively banned by the Gun Owners Protection Act of 1986.
2) The "assault weapons" that are the focus of these new efforts are NOT automatic machine guns. They are simply semiautomatic firearms, of the type that have been lawfully possessed by Americans for over a century.
3) The new push to ban "assault weapons" is based on deception and misinformation, because the public erroneously thinks that this is a push to ban automatic machine guns (which are already banned). Good public policy is not based on deception and misinformation.
4) Semiautomatic firearms are the type of arm most commonly chosen for the lawful defense of self and family. This self defense is a fundamental right of all law-abiding Americans and a ban on semiautomatic firearms would greatly infringe on the right of the people to defend themselves and their homes from law-breaking, violent criminals.
5) Arms protected by the second amendment, and by the Heller decision, are those that are common, and commonly owned for all lawful purposes. Semiautomatics are exactly that - common and commonly owned. Their ownership is flatly protected by the second amendment to the constitution of the United States, and the guarantee was clarified by the Supreme Court in DC v. Heller (2008).

I seem to recall alot of the members here saying Barack Husein Obama had too much else to worry about to do gun control. Plus it couldn't happen cause the Democrats would remember what happened last time. Would you all please raise your hands if you still believe this

Do you really think that will change a thing? Writing letters is nice and all, but until the people stand up and force government representatives into their places, nothing will change. The people have to want it, and want it enough to fight for it.

We have a relatively popular and very vocally anti-gun President, anti-gun VP, anti-gun majority leader of the Senate, anti-gun Attorney General. These people can push through even the most unpopular spending bill with almost zero bipartisan support...
All of the signs are there for another AWB. It will happen, it's just a matter of time.

Actually I'm expecting something closer to HR1022 as that defines the assault weapon as having ONE feature instead of two like the old AWB. It also bans private transfers if you read the full bill and look in two sections to combine regulations.

On another note, remember the threads we have had here that asked how long the gun buying panic would continue? I think Holder just ensured there will be no AR's on most store shelves until Obama leaves office.
