Can we talk about AK magazines

As others have said, all of the steel surplus military AK mags from Commie Bloc countries are good. There may be some differences in quality, but you're really talking about the difference between very good and excellent.

However, polymer mags are a different story. Not all of the AK polymer mags have metal reinforced lugs and feed lips. Without metal reinforcement, the locking lugs can fail by breaking off. The Bulgarian "circle 10" waffle mags definitely do and so they are the standard of excellence for 7.62 AK polymer mags.

I have some experience with 30 round mags. I now have 13, all Norinco 5.56, and have had no problems with them at all. What I have had problems with are Promags. Junk! I bought 4 and carefully did the suggested modification for my MAK-90 and none of them work without jamming.

Indeed. I will admit i have had some misfeeds with the 30 round mag but that was rare. But every 20 round magazine has never misfeeded. With both of my AK's. If it was a while back you purchased from tapco then you might want to re look into it. They have some good quality items now a days.

My east german mags seem to be high quality compared to my romanian but they all perform flawlessly even my romanian with dents and a half bent open floorplate always ran perfect.

There is ALOT of second hand internetz crap talking about the steel Korean AK mags sold by Amercian Tactical.

I own 12 of them, a mix of 30 and 40rd models, so my views aren't second-hand. They are not as well made as commie surplus mags; the steel is thinner in all areas, and the joints between the main body, the feedlips, and the locking lugs are not fully attached and ground flush like the commie mags are - they are precisely spot welded, which may be adequate but isn't great. The spring pressure feels like less. I've done limited testing but they work fine so far, except that the dimensions cause a problem in one AK I tried that works fine with various commie surplus mags. Given that the Korean mags aren't cheaper than various good surplus mags, I don't see a reason to buy them.

BTW, the funny gray finish is a zinc phosphate parkerizing.

I've not had any issues with the $10 Korean AK mags. The color is "wrong" but then I don't care about that as a long as they feed in all my AKs.

How about the 40 rounders

I have never used one but I have a buddy selling some at, what I think is a pretty good price.(Less than $20 each) But I have heard people say that all the 40 rounders out there are junk. What is the general opinion around here on them?

Then those people are fools.

The commies have produced 40's for use in the RPK for decades. These mags are the same high quality as any other commie-produced AK magazine.
