This whole bubba discussion had me thinking... I have an old Marlin Glenfield
.22 (don't knwo specific model number), and I was browsing ebay, and saw this place had these "dragunov" style stocks for Marlin 60's, which according to my research is the same as the marlin glenfield 60, which is what I think mine is, but I have not verified.

If I take a cheap mass-market prepared 22, and put a cheesy stock on it, maybe even a bipod, and an ebay red-dot, and perhaps epoxy a rail on the side
to hold my light and laser, would that be considered "bubba"? Or just stupid?

It's your rifle. Do with it what you want. If some delusional nut someday says you ruined a collectble Glenfield, just remind him they cost around $59 in any pawn shop when you did it. If someone doesn't like what you do to your own property, offer to sell it to them so they can preserve it for posterity. They usually shut up pretty quick after that.

FWIW, The Glenfield is a Marlin with a cheaper stock. I think it was marketed by Sears.

can you bubba a .22 rifle?

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. people do it all the time. It's called the 10/22. It's you money, bud.

I will admit guilt here. I have a desire to buy a 10/22 and drop it into a bullpup stock I saw in the brownells catalogue. I also clamped a Harris 1A2 to my Marlin 980V.

It depends on the rifle. A Marlin (Glenfield) 60 is no big deal, there are tons of them and they have no real collector value. Hack up a Winchester Model 61 and it is a different story.

Bubba'ng involves unreversaible changes to the gun, such as cutting, removing metal, etc. Putting a stock, such as the Druganov stock, on it, is not bubba'd. Mounting optics, provided you do not have to drill and tap it, is not bubba'ng. Putting a clamp-on bipod on it is not bubbaing.

Are you epoxying a rail to the stock or the rifle itself? If it is to the stock, it is not bubba'ng. Get the picture?

That said, it is going to look ugly as sin. :scrutiny:

I'd go with a 10/22 for all of your customization desires, considering that if it is made for a .22, its made for a 10/22.

And 686S&W, don't go with the Muzzlelite bullpup stock. Go with Dixie Consolidated. Much better design and quality.

here, is mine, chopped stock, chopped bbl to 16 inches, bipod, ww2 carbine sling, sprayed EVERYTHING , with truck bedliner, and engine paint. also had to dremel the front of the bbl, to get the front sight ring back on.

Well crud, you stole my idea.

Actually, I was thinking I'd just epoxy the rail to the barrel. Or maybe use some zipties to tie it to the barrel, couple drops of epoxy to keep it from slipping. :)

It's not a bubba till you put on the ubiquitous vertical foregrip. Oh wait, that turns it into a rooney gun, not a bubba gun! :neener:

Built it how you want, and enjoy it. That's what they're for.

heres a pic of a modified Marlin 60

heres a pic of a marlin mod 60 that someone at rimfire central fixed up. took the sights off, dyed or painted the wood stock with green. he cut out a chunk of stock and modified it to be as an elevated cheekpeice. then he put on that huge scope to make it a real accurate shooter.

Bubba is as Bubba does!

My brother undertook the restoration of my model 60's stock and did a li'l bubba'ing to it. Here's how it turned out:

He sanded it down to 1000 grit and applied Gold gilding to the stripes above the squirrel, the squirrel, and the oak leaves. He stained the oak leaves background and the stripes on the fore-grip and then applied many coats of clear-coat.
The next step is to strip and sand the barrel and re-blue it.

A little Bubba'ing never hurt anyone. Just as long as it's not done to a true heirloom firearm.

It even has the same kind of dragunov stock that they make for the marlin 60.
However, my rails are bolted on.

Rangerruck...that thing is....AWESOME! Ha ha. Love it. All sorts of uses for bedliner. I have a customer that Rhino Lined his bathroom.

You can not only "Bubba" one up "pretty", you can spend a lot doing it.

Ruger 10/22
Whistle Pig aluminum barrel - Red/Black marble
Boyd's SS stock - ambidextrous
Guide Gear 6-24X50mm illuminated Scope
Bi-pod
Trigger pull reduced to ~3 lbs.
