I found out my Form 4 for my new M10/9 SMG got approved this week. YAY!
So now I got questions about what I can legally do with it. I thought about using the serial numbered portion of the right side plate to make a MP5. With registered HK sears you can build MP5s, G3s, HK21s, HK51s, HK53s, and whatever... the model of the gun doesn't seem to matter as long as the caliber is listed on the Form 4.
So why can't I cut the serial number off my MAC and then weld it into a HK94 receiver and use that to build a MP5? The MAC is registered for 9mm and .45acp so that shouldn't be a problem. Without the right side lower receiver plate the MAC is completely inoperable and isn't a firearm any more, so no extra MG is being created. I've heard of people converting registered Stens into Sterlings with seemingly no problems.
Any NFA gurus know for sure?
