Ok so I was reading about polymer pistols on THR and it seems to me that they could make a glock in white, blue, orange or tie-dye for that matter. I have seen olive drab, gray and black, maybe a few desert tan but why dont we see other colors?

Is there a market for such things?

Do crazy color guns exist and I just dont know about them?

There's the answer, the market just really doesn't seem to be there, at least not enough that anyone is willing to make large runs in all kinds of funky colors.

But some companies have made polymer frames in blue, pink and other colors in the past and some still do.

I would guess there generally isn't much market for them, but there are a few 'unusually colored' from the factory polymer guns out there. For instance, Taurus has apparently actually sold quite a few of the pink polymer framed millennium pistols.

cricket sells multiple colors of the plastic stocked .jr .22lr's including pink

and AR plastics are available in a multitude of colors

I just noticed that I cant find the PT111 in PINK on the Taurus website, I see some mother of pearl pink grips but thats about it. Wonder if they stopped making them.

I'm not sure if they are still being made or if it was a limited run. I do know however that they were/are exclusive to certain chain stores. Gander Mtn. was one I'm certain of. I believe Cabela's may have also have/had them. I'm not sure of any other's. They weren't ever on the Taurus website though.

Here's the original announcement from the Gadner Mtn. site.

Kel tec used to sell, and maybe still do,an ivory/white grip for the P3AT and the P11,and on the KTOG website there was a tutorial that showed how to use RIT dye to make it any color you wanted...Lots of cool color examples were shown on a couple of threads there.Somebody did one in a dark blue that was pretty awesome...I suppose you could do tye dye...:p

Market~?

Yes, I have a lady customer that likes HOT PINK firearms~! :uhoh:
I recently had too order her a PINK Kel-Tec P3AT .380. Funny part is,
her hubby plays professional football for the Green Bay Packers~!

Not too mention, that she already has a brushed stainless Taurus .22LR
with PINK grips.

I spotted a red Factory Glock frame at the last gun show in Dallas.
Olive Drab, Tan, and Digital camo are common place in many makes of guns around here.

I wonder if part of the reason we dont see as many colors or specifically clear, is political. Enough people still think that polymer pistols dont beep in metal detectors making them look like toys might be a bad PR move. Also could be dangerous for LEO's. I would be interested to see how much color is visable, "edge on". AKA, can the BG tell what color your gun is.

I wouldn't be surprised to see more colors available in poly pistols and rifles in the near future. Before you had 2 options, dark (blue/black), or light (stainless/nickle). Now there are more grey, od green, brown, blue, pink, etc. If the interest is there the runs of colored guns will follow. Didn't some legislator try to pass a bill banning colored guns afraid they'd be mistaken for toys by LE? Kind of the opposite of banning airsoft guns or toys that look "too real".
Maybe one with glitter and little stars embedded.
Imagine what kind of Kalishnakitty someone could come up with (if they haven't already)?

My SL-8 was initially a plain, dull grey so I sublimated it black and plum with Rit dye.I kind of wish I'd done something a little different than black now, like dark brown with green stock and forearm, but I still like how it turned out.Not the best of pictures but there's a little more contrast in good light/in person.I wanted it to be just different enough and with a nod to the PSG-1 so the stock and handguard needed to be a different color, and I've always liked the plum AK stock sets:

Of course, now that new SL-8's are all black it isn't very special.

I'd say t's mostly lack of market, but political reasons is certainly another possible factor.Wasnt New York state trying to (or maybe they actually did) pass a bill making guns colored other than the standard black, tan, etc illegal?
