Hi!

I could really use some help identifying this gun, I don't have access to the model number or the serial number. All that I know is that it's a Colt and that it was a duty gun about 80-90 years ago. Do any of you have an idea of what caliber/model this could be? It holds alot of sentimental value to a friend of mine becuase it was his grandfathers service revolver but he doesn't know much about guns.

Thanks!

Looks like either a Trooper or "357" model. Made in the 1950s and 60s. Very, very nice revolvers.

Also, welcome to THR!

+1 to what Shear_stress said.
Not 80-90 years old, by about half that.

It would help if you would post something beside poor quality cell-phone photos.

Or at least tell us what it says on the barrel we can't read in the poor photos.

The holster apears to be a homemade "Tom Threepersons" type.

I'd guess the whole rig is no more then 50 years old, tops.

Thanks for the replies! I don't have any other photos other than these that he sent me. The barrel says "COLT'S MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CT. USA". Would anyone happen to know what the value of this gun would be or if it's a collectors item?

Thanks again for the responses!

Gotta know more then we know so far.

See what it says on the other side of the barrel.
See what caliber it is.

Find out the over-all condition of the finish, etc.
I can see holster wear on the muzzle, but the rest of the gun is covered by the holster.

Once we know enough to pin down the model & condition, we can give you a WAG guess on the value.

But at best, it is going to be in the $450 - $500 range probably.
