I just learned it's possible to reuse a dessicant pack! All you do is put it in the oven at low heat (200). What I need to know is if it's true and if so, how long do you keep it in there? Also, has anyone done it?

Yes. The dessicant beads absorb moisture. You can use dry heat to remove the moisture. Next time you're in a gunstore, pick up a box of Browning dessicant which they market for use in their safes. The instructions will tell you how to do it.

I heat my 360-gram silica gel packs at 240 degrees for three hours in a vented oven. They can be recycled indefinitely.

Related question: Been using / drying dessicant packs for a long time. I've always had an electric oven, which does a great job in the drying department. Three years ago I moved into a house with a gas oven, which produces a lot of water vapor. Anybody have any experience with how effectively this will dry dessicant?

DOes drying the dessicant in the oven cause any smell or fumes? I think I'll need to do that soon as the indicator is starting to change colors.
