Check your news tonight, even with old-fashioned cardboard boxes and hand-counting we get results in just a couple hours after stations close, and they are accurate to the vote. (Scrutineered last time, one table tried to do 2 steps at once, against my advice, and I checked their numbers closely. Needless to say doing it half-assed means they had to stay late.)
It's hard to tell just what the percentage of seats will be won by each party, because the FPP riding system heavily favours the party that does slightly better than the rest. 20% of the vote can mean 5% of the seats, and 40% of the vote can be 70% of the seats. Anyway, unless the Conservatives have their votes spread out too thin across the country they should win, and form at least a minority gov't (they don't have 50% of seats, but have more than any other party).
If somehow the Liberals win, well, it saddens me to say it, but it's time to start digging little handgun-sized graves And as a bonus the Liberals promised not only to ban handguns, but to delete parts of the constitution that limit their power. I know some people who vote Liberals, but I don't think they really understand all the issues. Some beleive that the Liberals will save the pension system, but don't like to discuss how it will be done... Other's simply have the will to vote, and are following their parent's footsteps. In the 20's age group I see 30% turnout at best.
Wish us luck, if things work out as they ought to my city will be sending the next Prime Minister to Ottawa, he will give power to the provinces, and the days of 'appointing' Senators, judges, and governor generals will be over, and we can ELECT our gov't from now on! And they won't take our guns away.
