Canadian folk singer killed by coyotes

Good mentions Zoogster...

She or others may well have been feeding the Coyotes around there....diminishing the waryness toward 'humans'.

And, somehow, things slid sideways for her.

Still, it is hard to imagine a "14 Kilogram" Coyoye 'killing and eating' an adult Human....and, no supposed wittnesses said anything about any monsterous disparity in size, of the supposed 'two' Coyotes blamed.

In my mind, this is right up there with being 'attacked' by two 'Whippets'.

Even if she was a small person, holding one's own should not have been a problem.

So...something seems to be awry here...

a good football punt would have sent any of those yotes yelping. i think it was possible one either snuck up behind tore at her achilles heel. this would cause her to fall and not much you can do if you cant stand to be honest. or she may have ran and got attacked.
i think in this case or any animal attack. the best defense may be to stay on your feet.
i had a hunting dog who got attacked by a pack of yotes, they tore his achilles tendon out, causing dog to fall. thats all it took.

stay on two feet
dont feed the animals!
wacking stick would be nice
pepper spray, id use pepper spray on yots way before i would on a bear
surefire light could work as well, id prefer a big ole maglight for whompin on them with.

since this was canada its pointless for me too say a firearm, she couldnt really have one where she was.

Lightning strike is more likely than death by coyote or wolf. We should be able to carry firearms, but this is a pretty thin reason. If this were Africa, with lions, it would be another story, but nothing short of bears is really a regular threat to humans in North America.

This is a tragedy for sure. I'm of the opinion that waaaaay too many people see nature as a dreamland and go out with too little preparation, knowledge and skill. 100 years ago people grew up learning about nature and how it worked, but most people now don't see the dangers. Even if it were only two coyotes, I think most people would have a handful if they really wanted a piece of you. Two against one is never a good combo.

Stay safe out there, and go prepared!

Bears, cougars, snakes -- all dangerous but avoidable. Coyotes? Maybe a pack of coy-dogs running as a pack with no fear of humans. Sad, but it was a one in a quadrillion event.

I like how people (including "officials") are positing or "determining" that the yotes "were not hungry". Which ones did we interview to determine this - the dead one or the live ones that got away?

You don't have to be skinny to be very hungry. Just ask Rosie O Donnell.

Yeah, just like all the other ones linked to by DNS above. I'd say more like one in a hundred thousand, or one in 500,000. Maybe one in a million (as an adult, not a child).

blood glucose levels?

Do yotes produce Ketones in times of starvation like we do?

checking intestines, etc?

Eighty two posts, and far less Strategies and Tactics content than not. Time to let this one go, folks....
