Cancel NRA membership?

I want the NRA to become more effective at its core mission, which is to protect the rights of gun owners, and not go off on other conservative tangents. No, I won't resign my membership, but I'm certainly frustrated that I have no input into the internal workings of the organization. It certainly needs to be more democratic and responsive to its members, but the trend in recent years has been exactly in the opposite direction. The nabobs at the NRA headquarters are accountable to no one. Their #1 priority (ahead even of advocating for gun rights) is to perpetuate themselves in office. In this, they are no different from the "swamp" of politicians.

Actually I am contemplating joining the NRA again. I dropped my membership about 16 years ago after being a member for probably 20 years because they supported a Democrat without a voting record in the 4th Congressional District against a Republican with an excellent 2nd Amendment voting record in the state legislature. The explanation I received after several e-mails and phone calls was that the Democrat (Betsy Markey) had not voted against the 2nd Amendment as of yet. I pointed out that she voted to make Nancy Pelosi the Speaker so it really didn't matter what she voted on as long as SanFranNan was holding the gavel........

But, that said, I would like to do something to show the left that all of their hyperbole and lying over the Florida massacre will only strengthen those who support the 2nd Amendment.

Good to know, but I'll stick to yearly membership. I always forget to pay until I see my membership was revoked.

Edit. I thought I quoted a response that said the NRA did have lifetime membership if you called them.

Will you cancel your membership with the NRA over Hertz, the banks, etc? I never even looked at them. Just wondering if anyone cares.

The only one's that "care" are those that actually believe the NRA has anything to do with a attacker that was ALLOWED by the FBI,local police and the courts to buy ANY weapon at all.

So many people and agencys ,including that 'school resource officer' that stood outside AND ignored the past of that attacker = that is who can blame the NRA.

The rest of FREE America see's what is being shoveled and smells it too.

Absolutely not! I've never used any of these NRA membership "benefits" anyway, so it makes no difference to me that these companies are separating from their NRA partnerships. I'm more ticked off at the linguine-spined companies themselves. I might actually boycott them now.

In fact, in light of the current situation with all this NRA-hate going around, I've made an ADDITIONAL contribution to NRA-ILA and to Gun Owners of America.
Boycott them! There are enough gun owners in this country that these companies - change agents in corporate form - will face ruin. Their shareholders will start screaming if their dividends suddenly start plunging.

ALL gun owners, not just NRA members, need to boycott these companies. Even if it costs them some money.

Political boycotts never work. Anybody remember the lettuce boycott on behalf of the United Farm Workers? Enterprise car rentals doesn't give a damn if NRA members stop using its services. Its bread and butter is millennials (who are not known for being "gun people").
For every one NRA member there are ten? Twenty gun owners? If ALL gun owners boycotted these companies they would feel it.

Dear NRA, in appreciation for your diligent hard work defending our 2A rights, my family has done the following in the last 24 hours.
2 renewals of long overdue memberships
2 new memberships (both women)
2 new junior memberships (1 boy 1 girl)

Thank you for your support of our constitutional rights. Keep fighting

Why doesn't the NRA create discount programs for stuff its members actually want and like- ammunition, accessories, gear, certain retailers. Who the heck cares about a car rental or insurance?? The Metlife insurance in particular had no firearm owner specific benefits... NRA was merely steering millions of members to that company.

Dumb.

How about member benefits for Federal ammunition, Leupold scopes, Ruger products, Cabelas, ets, etc, etc...

There is a program for some firearms discounts for NRA certified instructors. Most of those are not low to mid range price firearms however.

New member here as well. Torn over whether to support the NRA or whether to put my
money to better use supporting an entity that does not usurp Sovereign States' rights as
many efforts over the years have done. The latest example is this push for national reciprocity.
If government can grant this on a national scale, it can also implement national confiscation.
Giving our federal overlords more power is never a good thing. Keeping this power in the hands of the
sovereign nation state citizen is where it belongs.

AARP makes huge money selling their membership list. That's really about all they care about. That, their liberal causes, and their crummy magazine glorifying celebrities and other rich people. I was a member briefly. Not brief enough, but I am out now.

BTW folks, I just checked NRA's website, $600 for lifetime. Thus far I have only signed up for various multi year segments for years, It's about time I became a life member if for no other reason than to be known as a lifetime member by my friends both conservative and liberal.

I closed my account with First National Bank of Omaha and told them why I was doing that. I don't happen to use any others on that list but will also stop patronizing any that stoop to their level. Already stopped patronizing Google, Facebook, Starbucks and every other anti-freedom organization long ago. I realize I mean nothing to them but at least I have a clear conscience. They don't want my business, why should I give it to them.

:fire:

I won't be boycotting the NRA, in fact I just renewed for 3 more years. I personally didn't use any of the benefits recently lost due to spineless companies so they didn't hurt me. They only hurt themselves since many people won't use their goods or services on principle.

lol what?

I don't join groups like the NRA so that I can get a discount at a business

I wasn't sure what my current NRA member status was so I just bought a 1 year membership last week.

I also bought a lifetime GOA membership and made sure I was still active with my state group (GeorgiaCarry.Org). I should check up with SAF too
