It's rough country, but I love it. There's nothing like sitting on a mountain side watching squirrels and birds.I always wanted to hunt Caney Mountain but never drew a tag. Then they raised non-resident license price. I used to buy rifle, archery, and bonus tags for about $300 a year not counting a turkey tag. I quit hunting Missouri when they went over $225 for either method and $190 for turkey. I'll stay in Arkansas.
I have a friend who hunted it a couple of times and he did well, but he is pretty good at finding whitetails.
Until it is drag time and you know that deer is going all the way to the bottom of the hollar. The farm that I hunt has some 30 and 40 degree grades. It worries the misses because there is little cell signal and I'm 68. I had to drag a 200 pounder out last year 200 yards up a 30 degree grade. The next one that I shoot will be in the middle of the road. It's rough country, but I love it. There's nothing like sitting on a mountain side watching squirrels and birds.
That's good advice.Until it is drag time and you know that deer is going all the way to the bottom of the hollar. The farm that I hunt has some 30 and 40 degree grades. Just a little tip. Pull up and print a good topo map of Caney Mtn. I have used topos several times to pre-scout a new area.
