Canniballizing shotshells

Don’t remember where I got it but I use a cheap PVC pipe cutter to snip the crimps off of shotshells. Much safer than a knife and cheaper than dedicated shot shell cutters.

The few I have done I actually used a belt sander. Thinned the edges of the crimp and then used an ice pick to finish tearing and pop the folded crimp out the top letting everything else come out in short order. Probably a dumb way to do it, but it was quick and easy. Left the shells trimmed to a point I could use them in shorter form as well.

For my new shells I will make a simple trimmer.

I fall you want to do is open the crimp to merely change the shot size, use a drywall screw. If you want to salvage everything BUT the hulls, a shell dismantler works great.
