I recently purchased a FM Hi-Power Argentina M90, of an older style, in pretty good shape.
I applied some oil to the slide rail and drew the slide back a few times--it did go all the way back the first few times..
After that, the slide would not go back the full distance--only about half way back.
I can't remove the pin to disassemble the handgun, so that I might see what's keeping the slide from moving all the way back.
I'm in a real bind, just like the M90 Hi-Power.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,

Bumber. I'm trying to think of the different possibilities. It is possible that the recoil spring has jambed against the guide rod. I've had that happened before.

Thinking about your post, I'm a little confused by what you mean by "back". Do you mean it won't go forward into battery or you can't pull the slide back toward you far enough for it to chamber a round.

If it goes forward all the way into battery, you should be able to drive out the slide stop.

I'm really leaning towards a broken recoil spring.

Oh my!
Don't try to do that, or you will break something.

A Hi-Power slide stop pin has to be removed with the slide locked open.
That is the only possible place it can come out without breaking it.

Do you have the magazine out?
Does the barrel drop down out of lock-up in the slide as it opens?
Did you try pushing down on it as you draw the slide back to help it along?

RC, thanks for your correction. What I was thinking and what I wrote were two different things. The HP doesn't have marks on the frame and slide to align when removing the slide stop. I don't have one with me right now, but it seems to me that I just retracted the slide slightly from battery to pull out the stop. I don't recall having to actually lock the slide open. As long as the pistol isn't locked up, shouldn't the stop come out?

Remove magazine and use the safety to lock the slide open. Push up on the slide latch and start it out of the frame by pushing on the exposed end of the shaft (right side). Pull the latch completely out, hang on to the slide, disengage the safety, and run the slide/barrel off the frame.

As to the problem, sounds like the recoil spring is screwed up somehow.
