Seems to have some creedmoor brass on sale at midway. I have found a little ammo but don't want to spend 50 a box after shipping for it. So went looking for brass with no luck. And doesn't seem to be much 22-250 brass around either. So will it work to just use the 250 savage lee die and straight make it out of 6.5 creedmoor.

The 6.5 Creedmore is based on an improved .250 Savage case, Unless you have your chamber opened up to .250AI I think you'll be out of luck.

I believe I have 6 boxes of new Winchester .250 Savage ammo stashed in my ammo cabinet if you're interested. Got it when I bought a Rem Classic rifle so chambered, but ended up trading it off. PM me if you want.

its for a savage 99. I did see one post in a google search about it was hoping to find some more people who had done it. Will check out other stuff.

I was under the impression the 250 Savage case was made from a shortened and necked down 30-06 case. Since 30-06 brass is usually much more available than most other cases, if it were me needing 250 Savage cases I would be using 30-06 brass to make them.

It's roughly based on the 8x57 lineage the same as 30-06

But if you cut off and necked down an 06 case you'd have to do it in a bunch of steps and the neck would be crazy thick

It is about a four step process in a strong press to form .30-06 to .250-3000.
And the special order die set is expensive, $401.98 from RCBS. Probably less from CH.

Ahh, I see using the 30-06 case would be cumbersome and expensive too. I see how necking up the 22-250 case would be a much better alternative...

I just lube 22-250 cases outside and inside the neck and full length size with 250-3000 die,I could not get 30-06 that I sized to 250 chamber in my 99.

Easiest way to make .250 brass might be to use the "cream of wheat" method.

Load ~7gr of Unique in .22-250 case and tamp with cream-of-wheat or "grits".
cover with a piece of toilet paper to keep cow or grits out of your reciever/action.
Aim in safe direction an pull trigger. Case will come out expanded to fit your chamber.

You can also probably just use your decapper/expander to expand the case neck and do the same thing. If you can't get the decapper to enter the case neck without hanging (ie; some Lyman, RCBS, ect dies), you can use a small screw driver inserted in case neck to flare the case mouth by "wallowing" the screw driver around the perimeter of the case mouth.

It's not "rocket science"...

Using a .30/06 or 7x57 or such case would be the hardest way to go about it.
I've used my Lee sizer dies to make .257Roberts cases from 6mmRemington cases. Just lube the case, brush the case mouth and run it through the die. Presto, a .257Roberts case.... Roughly the same as expanding the .22-250 to a .250..

First of all, don't give up on finding original .250 brass. It's isn't all that scarce or hard to find, just a matter of knowing where to look. (Huntingtons usually have cases when noone else does.) But if you want to form from other brass simply do it the simplest and cheapest way: Attached, is photo of a "new" .250 brass formed by a single pass of .243 brass in a .250 sizing die. After trimming and turning neck to proper length and thickness it will be ready to load. On right is original .250 case for comparison.

Just a FYI when using the Grits or Cream of Wheat method. Do NOT use this method if your rifle barrel has a muzzle brake on it. The toilet paper can get clogged in the brake ports, cause a momentary obstruction and can peel the brake.

This ^^^^^^Guy used cloth to cover the Cream of Wheat, but I wouldn't chance it.
