I have heard about this canted gas block which I believe from my research to be when the gas block is not centered in the rifle. Now from what I hear it is rare to have happen, but when it does it's generally "bargain bin" WASR AK's. how rare is it to happen, and what are other AK manufacturers that are still within 300-400 dollar range that are quality, and are less likely to have this probblem.

It's not something you should worry about. If you pick up a gun with a canted gas block and look down the sights you will notice it. It's very obvious.

Just be sure to inspect your rifle before you buy.

Yah it is a fairly easy to notice problem. As to finding a different AK brand for 300-400 dollars, you wont. If you go cheap you risk having more problems, just how it goes. That being said I am very happy with my WASR-10 and its quite a lovely weapon.

Isn't some canting kinda normal, like a little mag wobble? I've read it's even on some high end ones. All the WASR's I've seen are somewhat canted.

AK builders: Isn't their a standardized way to make sure it's dead on 12 o'clock?

Bugs the heck out of me because the front sight picture is nicely framed until the post is off to one side or the other.

All the WASR's I've seen are somewhat canted.

About a year and a half ago I bought a WASR and I had an opportunity to inspect a whole row of 'em. Not one had a canted sight or piston assembly.
IMHO earlier WASR's were more likely to have these problems; CAI has improved their workmanship and QC in recent years.
Although I will say if you buy a WASR you should check!
These guns look rough but they do work well when everything is straight!
