Good morning to all. quick question about caps for black powder guns..Are the caps corrosive?? I know some WW2 amo is but it was the primers to blame.. Just want to know..

I don't think corrosive caps have been made in "the West (USA, Canada, Western Europe)" in decades. Maybe not in forty years.

Certainly any recent CCI, Remington, RWS (Nobel), etc. are noncorrosive.

Possibly some older Fiocchi caps and old brass CVA caps that were made in Italy, the latter which were made with a black primer material.
But AFAIK none that are currently made are corrosive. It's the powder residue of black powder & Pryodex that's corrosive. And the residue of other subsititute powders can absorb moisture which will also cause corrosion if not cleaned promptly after each range session.
Roll caps for toy guns also happen to be corrosive.
And some of the currently loaded Russian and Eastern European Berdan military primers can be corrosive despite claims to the contrary, not just those from the WWII era.

Dixie brand?
I'm not familiar with a Dixie brand of caps. Where do you get them?

Mykeal, Dixie brand caps were sold by Dixie Gun Works many years ago. My 1977 catalog list them as "Dixie Italian 11" caps at 85 cents per hundred or $7 per thousand. I bought a thousand almost 25 years ago and still have a tin or two. The label indicates they are "Extra Hot" and were advertized as such by Dixie. The caps were made of brass and therefore pretty tough. Never had one split upon firing as do those made by Remington, CCI, and RWS.

You all are going to think I'm really being cruel:evil::evil: especially since this is Sunday and all, but I found some more cap prices from bygone days. These are from Dixie's 1964 catalog. Though remember boys, we didn't make the same money then as now. I was pulling down maybe $20 a month from my six-day-a-week paper route. A 25lb. keg of 1fg, 2fg, or 3fg Dupont was $29.50 ($1.18/lb.)!

Oh, check the price for cannon powder too.:what:
