Ignoring the concrete, the stainless steel pressure vessel of a nuclear reactor is 8" thick, or more. The coolant piping is not exactly thin-walled tubing, either.
I have a friend who has one, and he routinely shoots the moon with his. With a good telescope he's said you can see the hits. I remember in August, 2003 he was shooting at Mars almost nightly, it was only 34 million miles away.

I love how they take an event that has a small likelyhood of happening(and an even smaller chance of succeeding) and sensationalze it to the point of people believing it is happening RIGHT THIS INSTANT and Must BE ACTED ON(usually FOR THE CHILDREN) ! Heck of a strategy, the Nazis would be proud ....
