Here is another situation where a lady was able to protect herself with a firearm...

Good riddens to him, he got what he deserved, its just to bad he was able to get her the 1st time....

Thankfully, I've had her at the range a few times latley teaching her how to load and unload our Mossberg 12 Ga that we keep in close reach... Shes not ready for the swat team, but if anyone is in or comming in, they won't be going out the same way they came in, I promise that... :)

The only way this story could be any better is if she had killed the scumbag the FIRST time.

Women need never accept a male's bullsh . .

Proper Sex is a beautiful connection by mutual agreement, forced sex is NEVER correct, and NOT to be tolerated. I may have mentioned previously, that I HATE RAPISTS! Since most women are frail compared to guys of my size and strength, they have little chance of fending off UNWANTED "advances." "Safe Homes" are available nationwide, yet we need "self-defense and positive-attitude classes" nationwide. The need is great, and the want is now. I love my wife and would KILL any degenerate attempting to harm her. Every woman is no so lucky. cliffy

+1 for justified self defense. what a piece of sh*t this guy must have been. ruthless and dumb to attack the same lady twice within a few days. im glad she took the initiative to arm herself.

Because links go down.

An intended rape victim shot and killed her attacker this morning in Cape Girardeau when he broke into her home to rape her a second time, police said.

The 57-year-old woman shot Ronnie W. Preyer, 47, a registered sex offender, in the chest with a shotgun when he broke through her locked basement door.
The woman told police he was the same man who raped her several days earlier. Officials do not intend to seek charges against her.

In the first incident, the woman heard glass breaking in her basement about midnight on Saturday. She went to leave the house, and the man attacked when she opened the front door. He punched her in the face and then forced her into a bedroom, where he raped her, said H. Morley Swingle, prosecuting attorney in Cape Girardeau County.

The victim reported the crime to police, and her landlord repaired the broken window.

She was home alone again Friday about 2:15 a.m. when Preyer broke the same basement window. The victim was awake watching television, when Preyer switched off the electricity to her house.

She tried to call 911, but couldn't because the power was off. She got a shotgun and waited as the man began banging on the basement door. She fired when Preyer came crashing through the door. When Preyer collapsed, the woman escaped and went to a neighbor's home, where she called police. Officers, who arrived within a minute, found a bleeding Preyer stumbling away from the house. He was taken to St. Francis Medical Center, where he died several hours later.

Swingle said the victim identified Preyer as the attacker in both incidents. Preyer, of Jackson, Mo., had wet caulking from the recently repaired basement window on his clothing when he was shot.

"I will not be filing any sort of charge against this 57-year-old woman, who was clearly justified under the law in shooting this intruder in her home," Swingle said.

This is why you should have at least one old fashioned wired telephone in your house.
How would a wired telephone have helped here? Why not a wireless (cell) phone? That way, if someone breaking in cuts the phone line, you still have the ability to call for help.

Actually, I thought wired phones were powered from current on the phone line, not from house current. I've had the power go out, and was able to use the landline to call and report it. I'm guessing that the intruder cut the phone line too. Switching the power off, as the article says the intruder did, is a lot harder (and more dangerous) to do.

But, back OT, here a gun not only protected her, but saved the state a lot of money.

I'm sorry this happened to her the 1st time.

Thank God we live in a state where we are allowed by law to protect ourselves in our own home.

On a side note: I can't imagine a shotgun blast in my home! :eek:No doubt better than the alternative.

I'm glad she's okay,

our Mossberg 12 Ga that we keep in close reach

Are you two related?

The phone is powered from the phone line. That is why standard corded phones are ideal (at least one) because if power goes out, you can still communicate. During Katrina, we lost power somewhere around 7:00 AM. Phones went down, but not for several more hours. I was able to communicate with the outside world until the eye passed over. By that time, phones were out, trees were falling like, well, trees, and the roof was doing its best to go airborne.

I am glad to see that this ended this way.

My wife is a better shot than I am and was taught to shoot rifles, shotguns, and handguns from an early age by her father (who I am proud to say is my best friend).

This is why you should have at least one old fashioned wired telephone in your house.

Situations are different. A landline phone in the event of an emergency such as this is EXACTLY as effective as a cell phone: Useless.

Where I live, a phone in the event of an emergency serves exactly one purpose:

To call and notify someone AFTER the event, provided that you lived through the event you would report.

When seconds count, the police are minutes away.

Or in my case, a half an hour, and 25 miles away.

Not good.

I'll take a good alarm, hardening of entry points, locking doors, and the ability to defend over the hope that a LEO can alter the laws of physics to arrive at my home in time to actually do something other than make a report and clean up the mess.

And that is no criticism of LEOs. Reality isn't in their favor, and unrealistic expectations of some only lead to heartbreak and failure.

Hi Baz,

Cordless phones require a power source. Actually the point in moot, given the choice between 12 ga and 911 she made the more effective choice. I just hope the community is gentle with her in the aftermath. While her mind is saying she did what she had to do and she was fully justified, her heart will be telling her she took a man's life. This is the true horror of rape, shamed if you do and shamed if you don't.

I'm just waiting to hear from the family of the scumbag

I can hear it now..."She didn't have to shoot him! He was just looking for a little lovin'" "Not my baby, not my baby!"

This guy's sense of entitlement must have been overwhelming. Thanks to our heroin for saving the tax payers a fortune.

Sorry, don't like to be picky about honest spelling mistakes much, but there's a big difference between heroin(the drug) and heroine(female hero)!
This lady is certainly much more of the latter. :D

Also, reminds me of a favorite song of mine.

Switching the power off, as the article says the intruder did, is a lot harder (and more dangerous) to do.

Actually, a lot of homes have divorced services with the main disconnect being a switchgear outside the house. Alternatively, the meter plugs into the base like a big fuse, all you need to do is clip the seal off.

I'll take training, defense and a good plan over luck.
