I'm bout out of caps. My home made ones suck too. Anyone know of anyplace with them in stock? Or a place where I can buy stuff to make decent ones. I make mine out of the primer cup from a disassembled spent shotshell primer stuffed full of paper toy cap gun caps. I don't use an in line gun I get the primers from reloading shot shells. these work ok for target practice but are not very reliable.

No now with Ukraine war it is almost impossible to buy in Europe too, this RWS manufacturing is stop producing caps maybe later hoop so, maybe in US situation is almost the same.

I found this.

I have not ordered anything from them.

I have a few commercial caps available, but I prefer to make and use my homemade caps. I is like anything else, a hobby, something to enjoy doing.
I saw that too. Pretty sure that site is a scam. The misspelled armory for crying out loud

All my no 11 caps and musket caps are for sale, but I'm in new Mexico.
22 reloader dot com has what you need.
They sell a modified H48 mix, potassium hypochlorite, antimony sulfide and free sulfur with a binder. They also sell a cap forming punch kit. Any mix that contains free sulfur has a max shelf life of 2 or 3 years.
They are real, I bought their "prime-all" kit.
I use skylighter dot com for bulk potassium perchlorate.
If you want long lasting caps a different mix that uses lead thiocynate instead of the free sulfur will last a hundred years. But lead thiocynate is expensive and is really only used for 1 thing.

If you don't use an inline, i have to assume you are using a side lock. So how are you using shotgun primers in a sidelock?

I don't use the assembled 209 on my sidelock. I disassemble a spent 209 extracted from a spent shotshell. Then I re purpose the cup that held the priming agent into a percussion cap by stuffing it with a crushed strike anywhere match head then seat a paper cap gun cap over that. This makes a mediocre at best percussion cap that is highly corrosive so it requires the nipple to be removed then soaked in hot soapy water and scrubber heavily after shooting

Curious...how do you disassemble a 209? Looks interesting if using red paper cap powder scraped/cut, with razor knife, from white paper back and packed in with acetone/Duco brand cement.

Is the "cup" already a #11 size?

Thanks...who'da thunk?
Welcome. I don't have personal experience with a Mag spark setup, but have read many positive comments on them, including being able to shoot BH209 successfully. Maybe someone with first hand knowledge can add to the comments.

No the cup is a little too big so I cut the caps out oversized so the extra paper makes it snug. To disassemble a 209 you seat it on top of a lock nut and run a tiny finish nail into the hole and tap the nail with a hammer till the cup falls out. Then stick a bolt of the correct diameter into the cup, place it on a flat surface and apply pressure to push out the dent made by the firing pin.

Wow. I think you will find the cap making die to be an improvement.

The cap die and the Prime All sounds like a much easier system to me.
