Some of you may remember my previous posts about interviewing for a co-op position at STI International. With the much-appreciated help from THR, I think I did a pretty darn good job on the interview. All-in-all, it was about a 2.5-3 hour interview. Despite what the interviewer said, I never got so much as a phone call or email back from them.

Disappointing, yes, but I'm curious as to what other kind of realistic career/job opportunities lie in the firearm industry. In under a year, I will have a BS in Mechanical Engineering and have a huge passion for all sorts of guns.

I know some of you have jobs/careers in this field... do you have any recommendations/comments? I know I'm not very happy in the current field I'm in and want to get into something that I know I would enjoy.

Thanks in advance for any input...

Check out ATK.com and click on careers. Alliant Techsystems is a major defense contractor owns Federal, CCI, Speer, Alliant Powder, and RCBS.

Buy resume paper and companion envelopes. I prefer Ivory. It makes your piece of mail stand out from all of the other crap HR people receive. I'd send your resume to the major manufacturers of guns, ammunition, and related accessories.

Get into the habit of check career pages EVERYDAY. This includes Monster and Hotjobs as well as the pages of the individual companies.

I recently toured the CCI ammunition plant in Lewiston, ID. They have a few engineers there, as well as other plants that are operated by ATK(CCI's parent company). It was a pretty interesting tour and I'm sure other ammo companies have the same engineering needs. The engineer I talked to was a mechanical engineer I think, he worked as a process engineer for the centerfire production area.

I'm starting to look into a lot places like that although I'm a materials engineering major.

Hmm strat81 beat me to it maybe there is something to ATK being suggested so fast and numerously.

that is pretty cool that you had an interview w/ STI. my g/f goes to Kettering and i will be transferring there next fall.

Yeah, I contacted them out of the blue myself so they weren't looking for any co-ops/engineers unfortunately and that turned out to the biggest problem.

Sorry to hear that you're going to be stuck up here in Flint...;)

I work for ATK's Space division. I just checked our website and there are over 400 open positions. If you are a professional (accountant, engineer, lawyer, etc.) there should be plenty of opportunities here. ATK is a great company to work for. The Ammunition group (CCI, Speer, Federal, Outers, etc.) is growing like crazy and making all sorts of money. Look into it. Good luck.
