One of these days, probably in several years when I can actually afford the trip, I want to go to Alaska and, amoung other things, hunt caribou. I was wondering if those of you with experience hunting them critters could give me a heads up on what to expect while hunting them.
Are they usually shot at medium-long range, or are they not too hard to sneak up on for a well under 100 yard shot. How big do they tend to be (I'm under the impression that 250-300 lbs live weight is typical)? How does the meat compare to deer or elk. Are they usually hunted during 'freeze your nads off' weather, or at more hospitable times of the year.
Also, what does AK require from non-residents to hunt, both in general and specifically for caribou.
