I just bought a Gustav swede mauser sporter in .308. Came with a Fagen walnut german-stule sporting stock, and Leupold Vari-x II 3-9x40.

I have been surfing the wwweb looking for hard resources on Gustav, his mausers, and who sporterized them. But, no good resources have been found. I need some old duffer(or a younger one) who knows these things and can head me in the right direction.

I don't think your going to find them. Most sporterizing will have been done by unknowns, either Bubbas here in the US or ,for the higher quality sporters, by small mom and pop gunmakers in Europe. Records really aren't kept.

Nice rifle all the same. I have a stock 96 that shoots wonderfully. Enjoy yours.

Welcome to THR, Willfully Armed.

I'm wondering what stamp is on the rifle? Is it stamped 308 or is it marked 7.62x51?
I do believe it is a small ring Mauser and pressures developed by the 308 Win may exceed the design standards.
Regardless of that, it is a very fine rifle and seems to have a safety that is unique. I've not seen one like that before.
