I want to get a 28" barrel for my Benelli Nova Pump, for trap shooting. I was slightly horrified to see the Benelli branded barrels are about $300 but the Carlson are closer to $200. I was leaning towards a Carlson but was hoping someone can chime in if there is any diminished quality versus the Benelli. Thanks for any feedback.

I didn't even realize Carlson made barrels for Benelli's. I can't really help with your question but thanks for pointing that out to me. Maybe I'll get an 18.5" for my SuperNova.

Does anyone know if they take Benelli chokes or just Carlson chokes?

I used to own a Nova. I liked the gun well enough, just not enough to keep it when I had better guns. I looked into buying extra barrels and concluded it was more cost effective to just buy a 2nd gun with the Nova. I see used Nova's selling for less than a new extra barrel.

I actually like the gun a little better than the 870 and a lot better than the Mossberg 500, but if having multiple barrels for the same gun is a priority then either the 870 or 500 is a better choice. That was a big reason why I sold the Nova and just kept the 870 with extra barrels I already owned.

I'd be on the lookout for a used model with the barrel I wanted. I think you'll be better off. One other thing to consider. When I was looking for extra barrels I found several sources that listed extra barrels, but never one actually in stock. I'm not even sure you can actually get one. I don't know anything about the Carlson barrels

It's not the same cost equation with my gun. The version with a stainless steel barrel & nickel plating costs twice what the Remington costs. And not to get into a debate about which one is better, I'll just say a used Remington for trap shooting isn't one of the options I'm willing to consider. If I was going to get one just for trap I'd prefer and over/under so I could shoot doubles.
