You know, in a round about way, I think they're advocating carrying a firearm. The Permit to Carry (and requisite DL) qualifies as the personal identification, and I can't think of a more effective "sound making device" than a Smith and Wesson Airweight loaded with .38 +P's...
That, and the fact that it was slow at work today, inspired me to throw together this:

(BTW, that's my SP101.) A response to my post was the ultimate compliment: "Nearly Oleg-worthy." --which emboldened me to post it here. :)

I LOVE IT!!!

I am trying to stop laughing now.

Reminds me of the sound suppressor arguments. Just the other way around.

Wow I initially thought you were borrowing one of Oleg's images. Nice work :)

Ummm, I'd recommend that people here in Minneapolis carry something with a little more firepower than that .357...like a 20" AR15 or a FAL.

There's been two armed robberies at the U involving multiple assailants.:(

The fellow who stopped the St. James church massacre in South Africa, Charl Van Wyk, single-handedly drove off multiple assailants armed with machine guns. He was armed with a five-shot .38 snubby.

Pat, that's a great image. Thanks for posting it. :)

I totally agree... in theory. Is that what you carry every day?. Maybe I've been wrong to assume that'd be impractical. :)

You gotta be a pretty big fella to conceal something like this:

I suppose the folding stock helps

My favorite personal noisemaker is Model 1911-A1.

Gotta love "Pat Cannons" personal noisemaker, too...Great poster/pix

Will people see a positive connotation in the "not counting the screaming and crying" line? I don't. I'd subtitle it with something more like, "When help is far away, make a bigger noise." Maybe not, but something like that. Just a thought.

Typical - a nice "how to do a nice advertising campaign" thread gets semi-derailed by "My gun is better than that gun."

Sigh...

Love the image. It'll make people think. Regardless of what sort of pocket boomstick is provided as an example.

Alas, you miss the point of that sound advice.

Here is a horn, similar to the one Harpo Marx tied around his waist:

Harpo-Horn-JW-0008-LF.jpg

It is larger and louder than the average person needs or could be trusted to carry. One might call it an "assault horn."

I am the only person in this room professional enough to carry that horn. You should get a smaller version.

Keep in mind that tooting your horn is illegal in New York City. It violates the city's noise abatement ordinances and, besides, only Mayor Michael Bloomberg is allowed to toot his own horn there.

But Mayor Mike won't mind if you scream while you are being attacked there, as long as you do it quietly and don't disturb anyone else. Be sure not to cover up the sound of Mayor Mike tooting his horn.
