For those few who understand the reference:

I live in very safe neighborhood, I stand a better chance of Hooters opening up on Temple square than I do a home invasion.

But I still have my BUG on my at all times, and my nightstand as well.

Almost always if I'm wearing jeans that will support the gun.

I think we are pretty safe here, we have had invited guests who were afraid to come up our driveway ;-)

I am not going to vote but I will say that I know from experience working emergency communications and 911 that it only takes about seven to ten seconds for somebody to kick in a front door, kill a dog and take out a mom and daughter. How long would it take you to get to your gun?

Chris

When I got my CCL, I started by carrying at home. It helped me get used to carrying in general and also trying different guns and different methods to see what felt the best.

Now, I just always carry unless I can't by law. Since one can legally carry at home, then I'm always carrying as soon as I get dressed.

I typically carry either my regular CCW a CZ-75D PCR 9MM in the house or a little Beretta M85 FS .380.

well, I have two mags loaded up for the P89 and shells ready to go for the shotgun, but I live on base, and am already breaking the rules by doing that, so I dont carry it around the house, but it would take me less that 10 seconds to get to the pistol and give somebody else a bad day while I am loading up the shotgun. Base security would be responding just in time to clean up the mess.

Not a high violent crime area, however things can happen anywhere and you just never know. If I move back out in town, definately carrying around the house.

If I felt the need to carry on self sitting around my house I would move.

CTPistol, I see you are in the NY metro area. Is there something special about your neighborhood? I live in rural PA, an area where most people own and use guns. Several of my neighbors still have their outdoor ranges on their own property. It is one of those areas where for years people did not lock doors, cars, etc. It still has that rural flavor, but we are seeing more and more of our neighbors experiencing a break in, sometimes when they are home, sometimes when they are not.

You are certainly free to make whatever lifestyle decision you like, but saying your neighborhood is so safe it can't happen to you is like saying you will never be in a car wreck, or your house will never catch fire, etc. You will never know until it happens, and when it happens, it is too late to prepare for it.

I stay armed at home, but not simply because I am worried about anything happening. For me, its part of my daily uniform. Keys, wallet, gun etc... When I get dressed, they do on. When I get undressed they come off. My safe is about 2 feet from my bed and when I get ready for bed, the gun goes on top of the safe.

That's a very good point. I live in a nice neighborhood, looks very safe and people are friendly. However, where do the criminals go? Where they know there is money and valuables and those are in nice, upscale neighborhoods. My next door neighbors left their garage door open by accident one night. As they were upstairs sleeping their beds, criminals went into their house and robbed them. It could have been worse, they could have been killed for their pocket change on the nightstand.

Short and sweet...... If I have my pants on then I have a gun on me somewhere..... Habit.... Now if Misses wants to get frisky and I have to take off..... well, you get the idea......
I've been carrying a concealed hand gun since 1971, I'm too old to change now.....

I'm getting used to full time carry with IWB 1911. Before, I carried it around with me from room to room.

I carry my M&P at home any day I CCW. The largest reason is I dont feel it responsible to leave it on the table with my wallet and keys since I dont live alone. Also every time I read about a home invasion I feel better about CCW'ing at home.

I live in S. Florida I have been robbed 2 times I now carry a colt 1911 at all times in a shoulder rig when I goto bed there are 2 pistols in the night stand and my Colt sits on the night stand. Also I have a 12 gauge semi that stands by the bedroom door at the top of the stairs. I dont take chances life is way to short and I have heard of people being murdered gangland style for 5 bucks. I well no longer be a victim. If you have your ccw and dont carry always, that one time when you need it you wont have it think about it.

How do you dress that you can conceal a shoulder rig in south Florida in hot weather? IIRC, Florida requires the firearm to always be concealed, right? (Here in Ohio, we can legally carry openly).

I get up in the morning and put on a gun. Don't matter if I'm here or in town or on the road, I'm armed. You might not have time to "get to" your gun if it's not on you. I usually pocket carry or thunderwear. I cannot wear extra clothing on a hot south Texas day, especially if and when it's touching or breaking 100.

As long as I'm wearing my jeans, the 1911 is on my belt. If I'm wearing my lounging britches, my .32 is in my pocket, and the .45 nearby.
