Had a few questions or rather opinions on this matter; I will of course seek legal help at a later date but was just curious to see what you all would say.

I am 20 years old and am moving from Illinois to Clark County Nevada in 2 Months to start my Police Academy in September. I am interested to see legal situations involving the carrying of a pistol concealed and un-concealed.

Is it possible for me as a 20 year old to aquire a CCW Permit or must I wait until 21.

Is it possible for me to (open carry) under the age of 21 with no permit. (Not that I really would do this, only in my car would I wear it exposed; I would take it off when going in to public.)

Can I legally keep a rifle preferably a (PS90) in my car with magazine loaded in but no round chambered and a trigger lock without getting in trouble (under the age of 21)

These are mostly age related questions. Thanks

The Nevada state law re: loaded rifles in vehicles is here:

Most of the other state firearms laws can be found here (scroll down to the "Weapons" section):

The gun ordinances for Clark County are here:

Are you coming for Metro's academy or the Southern Desert Regional Police Academy??? Either way, good luck to you.

There is a loophole in the Academy you can be twenty and a half and enter because by the time you graduate you are 21.:scrutiny: I will be going into Metro's Thanks for links

Desert Scorpion,
Welcome to Nevada, You will notice you will have considerable freedoms regarding firearms in Nevada, especially when compared to Illinois.
The loaded rifle NRS relates to hunting rifles and shotguns (No mention of handguns). IIRC there are some city ordinances in North Las Vegas and Boulder City regarding the prohibition of carrying dangerous weapons in your car.
For the rest of Clark County, Loaded, round in the chamber, if you can own it you can carry it under your seat, in the glove box, or out in plain sight. Concealed on your person requires a CCW. You might have to wait until you graduate to get your CCW.

You might also be interested to know that you can shoot on ANY BLM land outside of Las Vegas Valley (Stupid Dust Control ordinance) as long as you are >1000' from buildings and have an adequate backstop. I should also add that MOST of Nevada is public land - you have to make an effort to find the private land.

There is no state regulation of NFA weapons as long as they are federally registered. If I wasn't buying a house right now, I would be setting up an AR with a 12" barrel and a can.

Clark County (with the exception of Boulder City) is the only county with a handgun registry. Kinda sucks but the "Blue Card" gets you out of the 72 hr waiting period - Makes sense, once you own 1 handgun there's no point in a waiting period to pick up others.
