This afternoon I took along my "house" gun, an old G17, and a box of 9mm to run through it after my weekly 50 rounds with the Keltec P40 I've been carrying for the past 4 years or so. Hadn't fired the G17 for months, but the targets indicated that I'm MUCH more accurate with it than the P40, which I regularly practice with. ....Hummm......

The main reason I've been carrying the P-40 is it's significant power in a very small size & the fact it's a breeze to carry with it's approx. 20 oz. weight with 10+1 rounds..... but I shoot it so much better I'm beginning to think if I needed to use something the G17 would be a much better choice for me.

After I returned home & before I started cleaning, I did a little measuring. The G17 is quite a bit longer, but less than 1/8" wider. Without the +2 extension, the grip is only 1/8" or so longer than the P40 with the +1 extension I've been carrying. I've had a problem trying to carry the G17 on my belt, as the weight of the grip with its 19 rds. tends to pull it away from my body & it always seems in the way of my arm. I usually carry the P40 IWB in either an Alessi Talon or Comp-Tac kydex holster, & the belt always keeps it pulled in tight. Now I'm wondering if the G17 wouldn't work comfortably IWB too if I used the 17 rd. mag.

Anyone here comfortably carry a G17 all day long IWB? I'd sure appreciate any suggestions before I start ordering holsters.;)

I am sure many have. Prepare to hear about the wonderful benifits of what a "good belt" will do for you in your EDC needs.

And dont feel too bad about carrying such a "heavy" gun. In 4 months I will prepare to IWB a steel-framed 10mm Witness, which is 2lbs empty. Feels like more.

I have carried my G17 in the winter here in Minnesota. It is a little harder to conceal than my G26 in summer cloths, but with a sweatshirt on or a jacket it is just as easy to carry as my G26. I am reasonably thin, (190 lbs) and 6 feet tall, so YMMV depending on your "tire radius."
