Hi all:

I only have one Glock, a G17. I have one stock Glock magazine and two of the Magpul PMAG magazines. I've heard widely varying things about the PMAGs on the Glocks, everything from, "They're great and work really well, super reliable" to "Have had some problems on some of the PMAGs". FWIW, I jhave never had an issue with my PMAGs or my Glock magazine but I am not a hardcore Glock shooter, I just take it to the range once in a while.

I don't shoot my G17 that often but I want to pick up a few new magazines. In shopping, the Magpul mags are MUCH cheaper than the Glock OEM. I like to save money but not at the cost of reliability. What has your experience been with the G17 PMAGs?

Any other G17 mages I should consider besides Glock and Magpul?

Between OEM mags and Pmags I've put thousands through both and never had a problem with either. After 14 years, I got my moneys worth.

I have a bunch of PMAG's and they seem to work fine in all my Glocks.

I also have a bunch of Korean "KAHN" and "KCI" mags, and they work fine too. Ive been using the same lot of around 20 of them as my practice mags for over a decade now, and Id trust them the same as the Glock factory mags. The last couple I bought they were $9 or so. These were always the cheapest Ive seen, The first couple I bought were only $5. I have a bunch of their M1 Carbine mags too, and they seem to be the best mags for them going right now.

I also have a bunch of 19 mags from another Korean maker (RWB) that function and shoot fine, but they wont drop free. Annoying, but they do work, you just have to pull them out.

KCI magazines I have came with pretty weak springs. Purchased in the low 2010s. (OK, once I replaced springs with OEM Glock, or Wolff.)

Any reason not to just go with Glock brand magazines?

I wish Magpul made other Glock mags like .45 and 10 MM. not necessarily for standard capacities, but for extended capacities. I really like the Magpul 21 round mags a lot!

The Magpul 21 and 27 round Glock mags I have, have actually worked better for me than the Glock factory 33 round mags. I have a bunch of those as well, and they have given me trouble in the past. So far, all the Magpul mags have been 99.9%, as have the Korean 17 rounders.

Dont bother with the KCI 33 rounders either. I have a few of them too, and they dont work near as well as the 17 round mags.

Ive always saved my factory Glock mags for carry use. Although these days, I do use a Magpul 27 rounder as my reload. The others are used for weekly practice, to save the wear and tear on the factory mags. My practice mags are constantly being cycled and tend to take a beating.

I always stick to factory Glock magazines and have never really had a problem with reliability. I'm not saying that there aren't other decent choices, but they aren't going to be as good as factory Glock mags.

I have had more issues with PMags than I have had with the KCI mags. PMags are regulated for range use only. For everything else, I will stick with OEM Glock mags.

Factory Glock mags are cheap enough and are probably best. That said, I do have a few Magpuls and haven't had any issues. They do make some options not available from Glock. I really the 12 round mags for a G26.

I bought 10 OEM G19 mags at a gun show for $90 and 6 G17 mags at a pawn shop for $40. I don’t think I would consider PMahs when OEMs Glock mags can be had here and there for so much less and are so much more reliable.

I've had good luck with pmags. I happened on a sale where the pmags were about 1/3 the cost of an oem (already very reasonable at around 26 at the time I believe).

No issues so far, other than the lightness of the mags throwing off the loaded weight I was used to.

I have tons of both in various capacities, tons of rounds, and both work (literally I have a few hundred). Sometimes the pmags don’t drop free as quickly, probably just because they’re a bit lighter weight. Also the witness holes on the OEM mags are nice. If I had to chose one over the other it’s OEM all day long. OEM Glock mags are pretty much the gold standard for reliability, and if you’re only buying a couple more the cost savings is minimal.

Glock 19X: never an issue with any mag that fits it

PSA dagger: only 100% with OEM. KCI gen2 are decent. Magpul is rough and for range only

Other homemade glocks: OEM had least amount of issues

I'd consider aftermarket mags if they were better than the factory mags, if factory mags were prohibitively expensive, or if the factory mags were hard to find.

Glock mags are super reliable and one of the best features of the Glock. Relative to nearly all factory duty-type guns, Glock mags are some of the least expensive, it's not like they cost what HK or Staccato mags cost. Finally, Glock mags are probably the easiest mags to find.

Here is Mrgunsngear testing an early Gen 5 G17. Note the issues he has with one of his P-Mags. It is an older video, it only a problem with one P-Mag, and MagPul may have changed their design by now, but with as reliable, cheap, and available as Glock mags are, I don't know why I pick something other than factory mags.

Pmags have worked well for me using brass cased ammo. Have heard they can be iffy with steel case, though. Cannot confirm or deny that.
