Carrying a Glock inside waistband @ appendix position

I think the compact and sub-compact size Glocks and snub-nose revolvers are the perfect candidates for AIWB, but I still have a hard time getting over the fact that with the Glock, you're just 5 lbs away from bleeding out in a short few minutes (femoral artery).

The M&P sub-compact pistols can now be had with an external thumb safety, so that might alleviate some of my concern.

I have a Colt New Agent that I've though about appendix carrying. The sub-compact polymers just seem better though, as the 1911 has so many sharp points and edges on the grip and back of the slide that stand out like a sore thumb when a shirt is pressed against them (not to mention jabbing the hell out of you stomach and ribs).

...:uhoh:
As I said, I'm a dedicated AItW carrier....One other thing I appreciate about appendix carrying the Taurus PT709(besides its smaller dimensions vs. Glock) is in addition to the internal and trigger safeties it also has an external manual safety. A very comforting thing to have with a gun "there"....

I'm glad it works for y'all, but appendix carry creeps me out. While I've never experienced an AD and never hope to, my concern that has always been that an error in holstering or unholstering a weapon in that position could lead to an injury that that carries with it a very high probability of death.

Yes, I'm a coward. But I'd be interested in hearing how those of you who carry in that manner view this concern.

I have known for a very long time that appendix carry works well, OWB or IWB. It is not my "primary" carry location, however, simply because I wear my duty holster at 0300, and like to keep things consistent. Appendix is a great location for my "backup" weapon, however, with "backup" being in quotes because at a given moment in time, it may be the one up to bat.

When I retire from wearing a badge, or go to a permanent plainclothes status, I will be free to let my "primary" carry position migrate forward, with thousands of dry-practice drawstrokes before making the change permanent. Or, I may just keep appendix as a secondary spot; I virtually always carry 2+, anyway.

I disdain Glocks for reasons other than a scary-light trigger; they are too chunky to conceal well for me at the appendix position, and the blockiness of most autos is not comfortable there. A surprisingly large revolver can nestle right in, however, with the cylinder aligned with the inguinal notch. Autos are an 0300-0900 thing for me, unless tiny, like a Seecamp.
