Carrying a GP 100

On occasion, I've carried one in a DeSantis horizontal draw shoulder holster. It has pouches for two speedloaders on the opposite side to offset the weight. However, the GP-100 is a heavy gun and it does take some getting used to the weight pressing down on your shoulder. It is by far the toughest to carry in a shoulder holster of all of my CCW guns because if its weight.

I generally carry a G 27 with a Max con V. Very comfortable. I also have one for my full size 1911. I only carry that occasionally. Still with the Max con v it isn't all that bad. the problem with the GP 100 inside the pants is the width and the weight. At least the 1911 isn't as thick...

I have a 5.11 vest, with a velcroed holster I took out of a fanny pack. Don't know about the gp100, but I bought a 4 inch S&W 65 yesterday that disappears in that vest.

Try an Inside the Waistband (IWB) holster on the strong side. Kramer or Milt Sparks, or DeSantis. Works summer and winter.

Outside Waistband try an Alessi or DeSantis Speed Scabbard.

(Good Luck getting an Alessi as I have found them next to impossible to find for wheelguns.

I carry IWb in the appendix position. I cant the holster BACK, such that the grip is parallel to my belt line. It conseales very well, is as comfortable as IWB gets, and with the holster canted back, the barrel doesn't drive straight into the leg when you sit.

A little codensing of the above posts:

They're telling you that the gun is heavy and will require QUALITY gear. Yes an Allessi or Kramer is expensive, but there's a very good reason.

If you are on a limited buget, you might skimp a smidge on the holster quality, but whatever you do, DO NOT skimp on the belt. (trust me on this, I've carried my redhawk quite often, and it takes a good belt to stay put all day)

I'm sure some will roll their eyes at this, but with a wide and strong belt, I often slip a 3" K-frame or 3" GP into the inside of my jeans in the small of my back...with an untucked shirt hanging out for concealment... for me, anyway, it's quite secure there. I'm NOT suggesting this is better than a fine quality IWB holster my any means (Sparks VMII would be my choice in IWB holsters, BTW), but this type of carry does work well for some people.

Only problem I have with that DHart, is the location. You take a dump on your back, and you could really be hurting carrying a gun there.
Other than that, if it's secure enough, do it. Heck a couple of times, I carried a Super Redhawk IWB "mexican style". . . :what:

I tried carrying with a Defender Belly Band. Not too bad, the butt of the gun hung out from my waist pretty far. I might try and find something from Milt Sparks or go with a nice outside the pants leather from someone else. I like Brommeland's holsters, but I don't think that he makes anything for a GP 100.

Magnum... yes, if you fell flat on your back, that wouldn't be a good thing. At least one holster maker doesn't make holsters for the small of the back for that reason. Of course, I can't recall ever falling on the flat of my back in my life, so I don't think that's very likely, but it isn't impossible. If I were a cop or something where I would quite likely be running with a gun on me, I surely wouldn't use this method of carry... I only do it for occasional, casual, joe-citizen carry.

I carry mine occassionally. Go to Tuckergunleather.com and look at their heritage iwb. Also cabo. These both hold the cylinder above the belt which makes it more comfortable. I have the Tucker but have read good things about the cabo as well.

Alessi's are very good also. They do make revolver holsters. There is a distributor that goes to a local gunshow and always has 3" and 4" iwb and belt holsters. He also sells on EBAY.

I put Pachmeyer compact grips on for better concealment.
