Carrying exceedingly large guns for CCW

The largest handgun I have concealed and felt more or less confortable with was a Ruger P-95. Even that was really pushing it for my tastes. I light and slim over thick and light. A light single stack semi-auto is easier to ccw than a revolver of the same weight IMO. I still carry a S&W 642 as my CCW though because of the fact that it has never jammed and is not likely to jam. A small auto is more likely to jam than a larger one.

Because more then likely you're going to have to draw quickly and be shooting from a retention position
That's a 2 edged sword. If you are so close that you have to shoot from a retention position then the big handgun also doubles a club. A 40 to 50 ounce piece of steel in the hand is a viable weapon in close contact. If you have let the threat get that close then you are at a big disadvantage no matter what weapon you have or how you are carrying it.
A fast draw is accomplished with practice using your carry system. Drawing from a pull thru shoulder holster can be as fast as drawing from a pocket. All types of carry takes practice to be proficient.
You fight with anything and everything you have at your disposal. If all you have is a large handgun then that is what you use. It's no big surprise to you. You knew you were strapping on a heavy handgun and have made the decision to carry it.

I fired a Desert Eagle for the first time today. It was a .50AE!

Fun to shoot, but not my idea for CCW.

Though I do admit to having carried a 6 1/2" model 29 and a 6" model 27 in a Bianchi shoulder holster before.

Still prefer a 4", or even a 3" wheelgun for CCW. 5" Gov't model for an autoloader.

Though there is a lot to be said for that short barrelled AC556, with the nice folding stock. That could be carried underneath a long coat, give good close range ballistics and accuracy, and, with a 20 round magazine, lots of firepower.

It is a shame that I don't own one. :(

I carried a '6 Python in a Bianchi Phantom shoulder rig for all of a day once, mostly because a friend of mine was trying to tell me the gun was useless because I couldn't conceal it. (not why I bought it, obviously) It was winter, and it hid fine under my jacket, but it was really just for fun, it'd be a pain daily.
I breiefly had the little Uzi with the snap-on DeSantis shoulder rig as well, although mine wasn't full auto, and I only put it on so that I could look at myself in the mirror and never actually wore it anywhere. That rig felt quite heavy to me with the two loaded mags on the off side.
My .50 DE is one of the few handguns I don't even own a holster for, because really, why? I once met a bail bondsman who claimed he carried a .44 DE IWB behind his right hip, but the guy was built like a mountain gorrilla, and I didn't actually see him do it, he might have been making it up. Far to bulky and heavy for me, I'm built more like a spider monkey. ;)

...anyone make an ankle holster and shoulder holster for these....

A friend of mine just got his Concealed Carry License and he borrowed one of my guns for his class. Because the only handgun he owns is a 44 mag Desert Eagle. He keeps it in the glove box alot of the time. When he does carry it I think he does so mexican style SOB. He's hoping to get a 1911 soon.

Call me a sissy but even a SIG P-239 9mm is on the heavy side to be wearing all day. My Glock 27 I almost forget about having on. I tucked my full sized Gov model 1911 in my pants for awhile and I don't know how people can stand it :)

To each their own but a DE would be silly huge for carrying.

I like 44 for a hunting sidearm, so I got a Bianchi X-15 shoulder rig for my 8" 629. I was surprised to find that it conceals well under a loose sports jacket (which I often wear in cooler weather). Not the primary purpose of that rig, but I've used it once or twice for CCW - usually on my way to or from a shooting spot in the country. I found a cheap black rig for similar carry of the DE, but it just wasn't as comfortable nor as classy.

If he ever has to fire that from inside his car, he is going to have severe and permanet hearing loss. .44mags are loud even when you have muffs on!.

I fired a .50 DE once without ear muffs and I can't say that it was fun. I don't see how anyone can get a good grip on a DE much less conceal one.

IMHO, DE are about as useful as Tec-9s, M-11s, and UZI pistols. They are fun but there are better guns that will do the same thing and be smaller and easy to control. I've seen way too many DEs jam to consider them a viable self defense weapon. I think anyone who would carry one as a CCW is trying to be some kind of Action Movie hero or something. If I knew someone that CCW a DE, I don't think I could take him seriously.

follow-up shots would be very slow, and there's no discernible improvement in stopping power over a 45. Maybe less so.

My "will barely lock the slide back on the last shot" loads in my .50 AE are quite manageable and I've gotten runs in bowling pin matches with it very similar to my .357 Mag revolver times. I can shoot it fine one handed, right or left. In fact in the latest Competition forum event I actually scored better left handed. However I was using the .44 barrel and full power loads for that.

It's not as bad as people make out. There's still no way I'm CCWing the thing :uhoh: Even in a car.

I'd guess that most people don't tuck their full sized Gov model 1911's in their pants. I think it's safe to say that most of us use holsters. That's how we "stand it".

One old friend of mine used to carry a Mossberg 500 in a Galco Witness Protection rig. Of course he was 6'4' and about 220# of muscle, and wore a duster everywhere. Then there was the one guy who strapped a folding stock Mini-14 to his leg and wore baggy pants over it, but he was also gorrila sized and not normal by any standards.:D And of course loads of gangbangers with short shotguns and stockless AKs who think it really is hidden under that jacket or those baggy pants.:what:

I carried a Glock 20 10mm full sized pistol in Thurderwear Smartcarry holster inside my pants for a week.

I would rather share a bathroom with my mother in law for a week than do THAT again.

SRH 454

I can have 3 handguns on my ccw permit, so I added my SRH. I actually can conceal it in an over the shoulder custom bag I carry when hunting, but it ain't something you'd want to carry around town. I do occasionally keep it in my jeep as a big backup.

That is one nice thing about living in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Our CCDW licenses plainly state weapon(s). So we have a choice!

Everybody likes a choice!

Of course, some of those choices I would never make. But it would be legal to do so.
